Official Nashville Predators Thread

No sport cycles through retreads like the NHL does, except perhaps European soccer.

I must confess even after being a fan of the NH for the last couple of years I still don't know much about the coaching pool and draft prospects like I should. That said it seems like Hynes is going to be the guy and will be announced within the hour per twitter and I really don't get it either. I would have rather fired him last year and tried to get Quenneville after Chicago fired him.

I don't either - I know surface-level stuff with the NHL but don't have the deeper, detailed grasp of the sport like I do with college/pro football and baseball.

I think cycling through old coaches is so common in the NHL because it's less about scheme/"play calling" and more about motivation. All these guys have shelf lives because the message gets old after a certain period of time - the great coaches just have longer shelf lives than others. Then you have to bring in a guy who's message is different, and it sounds good because these guys haven't heard it before.

Lavy has a pretty consistent shelf life of about 5 years...it's amazing how his runs in Carolina, Philly, and Nashville were similar. Either make it to or win a Cup within the first 3 years, then regress, then get fired in year 5 or 6.

I am thinking if the Preds don't make the playoffs and this goes really south the rest of the year, then Poile may be on the chopping block.

Poile is really going after the players in his presser right now. Basically lays the blame on them and not Lavy as much. He went on to say the only guy on the team that has played to his potential is Josi.

That sucks for Lavy, but he (and all pro coaches, I'm assuming) know what the gig is. If the coach has lost the locker room then that coach has to go, even if it isn't his fault. You can't trade or cut 10 players, so you change the coach.

St. Louis' hire was pretty frowned upon last season and we see what happened there.

Not saying he'll be great, but might as well withhold judgement.

I don’t like the hire, but you can’t blame this one on him. Too much going on the last 24 hours to have the team totally focused. Also, the combination of injuries and playing one of the best teams in the league cost us this one. If you thought we were winning this one then you were a fool.

This isn't good imo, any details of Hynes contract?

It looks like we're going to be sellers soon.

I think with the coaching change, it would be more likely Poile is all in and will be trying to be a super buyer. If you were giving up on the year, what not just let Laviolette stay or name one of the assistants an interim ?

It looks like they are actually attacking the goal instead of the perimeter passing ******** I’ve gotten used to.

The team that played the 1st period can play with anyone but man they once again they folded and let the other team back into it.
