Official Nashville Predators Thread

I'll be disappointed if we lose this series. Only way I can see Phx winning is if Smith goes unconscious. We're just a better team, Preds in 5 or 6.

The most annoying part is, since they do a full 20 minute OT period, they add in a 3rd intermission. It's frustrating to watch 20 minutes of INT, just to watch another 4 minutes of hockey.

Regular season, they play 1 OT (5 minute 4 on 4) period followed by a shootout. In the postseason, they play OT (20 minute full strength) periods until someone wins.

As far as I know, and I'm a pretty recent NHL fan, way back it was a 10 minute sudden death OT. In mid 80s it was changed to 5 minute sudden death OT. In 2000, they went to the current 4 on 4 OT for regular season. Playoff OTs are still played with each team at full strength.

In mid-2000s, they added the shootout at the end of OT, and no longer allowed regular season ties.

What's the reasoning behind the 4 on 4?

I'm pretty sure in the NHL ties were allowed through 2005, not the 80s. The rule change in the 80s was going from 10 minute OT to 5 minute.

The 4 on 4 just facilitates scoring, I believe. 4 on 4s favor the offensive team.
