Official NFL Playoffs Thread

So what's the actual rule? Are you not allowed to make any contact with a guys head, even accidentally, with any part of your body, even if you don't launch yourself or lead with your helmet?

You are supposed to dive at knees and tear them up, way better than a head shot.

I believe so as long as the ref seems it avoidable contact.

It's definitely a rule that needs work.

So basically what the defender was supposed to do there is let Harvin make the catch at full speed and once he had lost his angle, watch him walk into the endzone?

I agree they've got to find some middle ground. As it stands now, refs basically equate a hard hit with an illegal one, and penalize them all.

So getting rid of dangerous hits to the head is soft?

Really?

My initial statement was the NFL is soft. Which some of it has become soft. But yes when players get called for it and its not a hit to the head, its soft. Brooks to Brees comes to mind.

Well refs missed defenders leading with the crown of their head in a running play pile too.

They need to revamp it completely.

That's not soft. That's bad reffing.

Big difference.

Defenseless receiver. Easy call

Then the rules need to be amended such that it's also illegal for the receiver put himself in a defenseless position attempting to catch a pass. If defenders aren't allowed to leave their feet to hit guys to prevent catches from being made, why should receivers be allowed to leave theirs free of ramifications to catch passes?
