I usually see one rattler a season. None for me so far this year. Chicken snake and black snake is all I've seen.
Has anyone else noticed an increase in venomous snakes this year? I've seen more just this summer than I have in more than a decade.
I killed a 6 foot eastern diamond back on my friend's property last month, probably the fattest wild snake I've ever seen. Cut off the rattler and let my friend keep it. He was about to piss his britches. My dad taught me how to take care of them when I was a kid.
I don't like killing them unless I know there's going to be a lot human traffic in the area(like popular deer hunting spots), they're clearing the land out to develop so I went ahead and took care of it for them.

Usually, I'm a live and let be kinda dude. Never had a problem with a rattlesnake. When a copperhead is moving aggressively toward me, it ain't keeping it's head.
I'm definitely a live and let live person even with venomous snakes. Like I said, I only kill them when I know there's a good chance someone less aware of their surroundings might step on it and get bit. My friend and his family will be out there a lot clearing the area for construction, so I figured better safe than sorry.
I actually like snakes. They're valuable assets to the ecosystem.
They're more aggressive than rattlesnakes. Their only warning is a musk they release that smells like cucumbers. Their defensive posture consists of striking rapdlidly, multiple times.
Are venomous snakes any better at regulating vermin populations than non venomous? I'd much rather have a black snake in my yard than a copperhead.
I assume youre talking about a rat snake? I imagine they eat about the same amount of vermin as a similarly sized venomous snake. I would kill a copperhead if it was in my yard. I don't really consider that "the wild". Unless youre living on some type of nature preserve Lol.
I've had them just about climb into our boat on a couple occassions. Literally beelined towards us, no fear at all.
