Official Tennessee's Tournament Chances Thread

I believe the team can live up to our expectations for a winning season if they put enough effort into it. I just don't think the selection committee is going to grace the SEC this time around with too many bubble opportunies. Vandy, Bama, State, and even Arky are more likely to get the nod over UT unless the Vols are clearly better.

this is true and judging by the way sec teams have performed lately they have been anything but good. well im not ready to write off the chances, call me stupid i dont care i still hold hope. it starts with uga and then the big one against uconn. we win those 2 and we are on a good little roll.

Great attitude.

He many simply want to avoid getting hopes up.

I think it's possible we could make it, but I'm not banking the next two months of my life on it. It'd be nice to keep the little 6-year streak going, since it's the longest active streak in the SEC, but it's not like we'd be a contender to win the whole thing, barring a major improvement.

why put not gonna happen stop discussing it and then say its possible to win the sec tourney though, which would get you in the ncaa tourney?

Because I'm all but certain that we won't win the SECT, but I acknowledge that it's entirely possible. Just covering my bases and being realistic.

Btw, you guys can suck it. Everyone who visits the bball forum on a daily basis knows that I'm an optimist.

There's nothing wrong with having hopes up...I spent a lot of my childhood crying in the early 2000's whenever UK lost.

haha just giving you a hard time. nothing wrong with being realistic and not setting yourself up for dissapointment, i have a bad habit of doing that to myself.

Ask me again after the GA game.
If we go to georgia and lay an egg, we'll all stop singing High Hopes together.

I did it a couple of times as a kid. As an adult, I have to work on Tuesday whether we won yesterday or not.

The major improvement saw his first minutes yesterday.:)

exactly! if tennessee has hopes of making a trip to the tourney uga is a must-win, and uconn is pretty close to it as well. win those 2 and we can revisit this feeling just a little better.

Yeah, thats how I feel. We're a longshot now. If we take both games this week, we'll be able to at least plot a course.

and thats a start. basketball is a fun sport in that alot can change very quickly, if we go on a nice little roll you never know what can happen.

Possible but highly unlikely.

To get in..I think we got to beat

@UK (which no other team has done since Cal came)
@ UF (which is the only place they know how to play at)
Uconn (with probably 3 first round draft picks in their 5)
@Vandy (which is never easy in that jacked up gym)
Vandy (which is possible in Knoxville)

We need some impressive road victories, a decent run in the SECT and probably only able to drop 2 or 3 in SEC play
AND THEN make it as a 8 or 9 and get somebody like Syracuse or Ohio State in our second round game.

But what's more impressive is us even talking about it since we were picked 10 in the conference, return 1 starter, have a new coach, and nobody even believed we'd have enough talent to post 5 wins in conference play.

Speaking on NIT, it's not going to be moved to the Barclays like the other tourneys is it? I really hope they keep this at Madison Square Garden.

i think we can lose @uk , @uf and @vandy and win all the others. that seems more likely to me then beating those teams listed above. if you win out and lose just those 3, we're 11-5 in sec and beating uconn we finish 19-12, i think even with a first round loss in sec tourney that resume would get us in but 1 would would be a lock. never know what could happen in the sec tourney either, you go in with that record win sec tourney you could get a halfway decent seed. obviously all this happening is highly unlikely just saying. i think realistically we are capable of finishing 10-6 in sec, beating uk and being 18-13 heading into sec tourney. i think we'll get atleast one win and probably sneak into the tourney as an 8 or 9 seed, win first round game and lose to a #1 seed. High hopes i know.

:dance2:

the hard part is right now we are 1-2 in the sec, albeit they were close losses they are still losses unfortunately. we have got to start putting some wins together of 8-8 and a .500 year is very likely.

The Austin Peay and Oakland losses are gonna bite this team in the ass.

this team looks alot different if...
they beat memphis in maui
beat c.o.c
beat oakland
beat austin peay
beat msu

with those wins this season is looking much different

Oh you can say that about a bunch of games.

However, this team was good enough to beat peay and Oakland. If they do that, their tourney chances look a lot better.
