Official WBB NCAA tournament thread 2024

I agree it was the right call .. After seeing the reaction of Geno and his coaching staff after that call , told me they knew that was a moving screen as well .. Yes , Geno got angry but nothing like he used to get after what he felt was a bad call .. not to much reaction if any from his assistants.. just my take .. thought it was a great game from both teams from start to finish ! 🏀
On the replay Lobo started said Edwards was slightly leaning
When they showed the replay right afterwards
When Lobo seen the contract
Lobo said oh
Then she Paige was ahead of Marshall didn't need to set flare scene.

Lobo shut up about bad call . Case close.
If she believe it was a bad call she would have said more than Oh.
Geno not going off he knew it to

I agree, Geno looked more disgusted with Edwards than the call imo

As for the foul or not - typically in these types of games they do not call a game deciding foul like that in the final 5 seconds unless it is flagrant - typically they let them play - remember the double dribble by South Carolina - was obvious but not called.

It is no doubt the NCAA wants Clark in the championship game. Seriously doubt the foul would have been called if the tables were turned.

And yes it was a foul - but like I said lots of fouls happen in the last few seconds of a game that are ignored due to the possibility that the foul decides the game. This one did. It was called because the undesired team could have won the game.

The foul would not have been called in my opinion, if she hadn't leaned out and clipped the player with her elbow intentionally. That was a definite illegal move that affected the ability to defend. The call was correct.

DUH.............Ratings Ratings Ratings...............it was NOT the NCAA.............THE GREAT ESPN was jerkin that................ Jack Jack.....lots of $$$$ for the Finals on ...................of course ESPN!!

is anyone else besides me genuinely torn about who they want to win the championship tomorrow?

I like both teams, staffs, stars and their stories. It's amazing that South Carolina has lost only one game in the last TWO seasons, and after having lost their entire starting lineup from last season. Wow!

It's also amazing that Iowa has even made it back to the final without Clark's dependably strong post Monika Czinano as the "2" in her "1-2 punch." The season Iowa and, especially, Clark has had is definitely deserving of a fairytale happy ending. (I mean, they sent CT packing. What's not to love there? 😂)

Both teams and staffs deserve to win, and I'll be happy for whichever one does. It would ordinarily be an easy choice for me as I'm one of those people a lot of others loathe for rooting for other SEC teams to do well, but I do like Dawn and South Carolina. But I also find the Iowa story worthy, too.

One thing is certain: I would much rather like both teams and not have to be unhappy for days after the final. I get to be happy for one team and sad for the other, which is better than feeling like I need to find another hobby because a team I truly dislike won it all. 🤮

And for the love of God, may NEITHER team commit a game-changing foul at the end. But if they do, DON'T b!tch over it being called. Play clean and let THAT be the definition of "let them play."

Pulling for Iowa all the way. Might be a long, long time before they get another shot. SC will be a perennial contender for the foreseeable future.

Also, SC doesn't deserve to have an undefeated season. Should have one loss if ref had done his job (twice).

Would have pulled for NC State, but Iowa next best. If not one of them, then SC. The fourth team was a big no-can-do.

Negative South Carolina will continue to be a mainstay. Iowa gives no appearance that will be regular top 5 after Clark's last college game. The women's game has sucked for so long in part because lack of parity. Todays news of Sara Strong committing to UCONN doesn't help as them and S. Carolina stockpile talent. So yes south carolina losing 5 starters sounds like a huge deal but when the next wave is full of top 10 players taking their place its just reloading.

I am definitely pulling for Iowa to pull the upset just for a break up in the powers of WCBB.

I just remembered another reason some might want to pull for Iowa: Beloved Naismith Hall of Fame Coach C. Vivian Stringer, who once coached the Hawkeyes to multiple conference championships and taking them to the Final Four, will surely be happy if the Hawkeyes win. Coach Stringer is a great lady, and it would be sweet for her to feel a little bit of pride in the championship.

I’m personally “team asteroid”. I can’t stand either team or either fanbase.

If I’m rooting for SC it’s only because I dislike Iowa that much more. I would love to see the narrative of CC being a basketball god ending in a big flop with an Iowa loss. And also because then their stupid fanbase would forever have to hear the whole “0 titles” criticism. I said it before, but I’m petty!!

That said, the thought of SC being one of the few teams to go undefeated in a season also sucks.

Another slo-mo reel of the illegal screen that most definitely was properly whistled:

In super slomo, the most incidental contact looks like assault and battery with deadly intent.

In real time, it looked like just about every other "Legal" screen that is set in the course of the game. I say that as someone rooting hard for Iowa but that was just not a clear and obvious moving screen.

Here is the real rime replay

Terrible angle. It's why Hollywood movie fights are shown from that angle; you can't truly perceive the depth of field.

Side angles clearly show that (a) Edwards is still obviously moving and never gets set; (b) Edwards extends into Marshall and initiates contact; (c) Edwards brings forearm up to Marshall's neck level, snapping her head back. Just a textbook offensive foul on multiple levels. Not even arguable to any objective viewer.

Even critics of the call were nearly-unanimous in their assessment that a foul was indeed committed. The common complaint was that the time left in the game and the impact on the outcome dictates that the infraction of the rules should not be called in that situation (for some inexplicable reason).

So should the foul have been called if Iowa had been up by ten and the outcome was assured? Does this mean that fouls don:t get called in the waning seconds if the score margin is one possession or less?

What if the foul hadn't been called, Bueckers went to shoot, and Clark clearly hit Bueckers on the arm and caused her to miss a potential game-winner? Does the "You cannot call that there" rule still apply?

Maybe a new rule should be adopted: Each team gets one thirty-second time period during which one team's so fouls cannot be called. Can be used once per team at any point in the game. Each coach issued a Get Out of Jail Free card to be used at his/her discretion.

That's like cites and prosecutors Doesn't keep people in jail no longer than the paperwork TO release them. Or their one phone call ride gets there.
They only help themselves to under 1500 dollars.

I also would like Iowa to return to irrelevance. A perfect storm of whiny players and entitled fans, but I’m also petty!

I don’t particularly want SC to win, but I am very moved by the Raven Johnson revenge story.

I actually REALLY like Lisa Bluder lol, she just seems like a good gal.

She’s smack dab in the middle of a media circus and it hasn’t changed her one bit. Still the steady, easy going mid-westerner. Very commendable if you ask me, we’ve seen less coaches get a big head.

She KNOWS Caitlin Clark is their success, she’s not dumb and she’s been doing this a long time. She is fully aware her team will take a big step back once Clark is gone, she just seems to be enjoying the moment and riding the wave.

Addison Deal in 2025 does indeed look like the real Deal though, I love her film. They have a year to wait but she could have them back in the conversation playing with Stuelke as a senior.
