Elton attacks England stars

Elton John's comment and the subsequent comments are interesting.

When was the last time Elton John actually mattered?

Portugal/Germany on Sat. and Italy v France on Sunday for all the marbles. Italy hasn't given up a goal in the tourney (besides an own goal) and should take it.

Never underestimate the power of one of the 5 best footballers ever playing his last game. NEVER.

You imply that he once did. :dunno:

Who Zidane? Amazing touch on the ball.

Both Italy and France looked like crap in the beginning. Man did they begin to play later on when it matters. Am huge Germany fan and wished those diving bast*rds didn't make that goal. It was pretty though. Italy deserves to be in the final. I think though France will prevail. Zidane is coming on when it matters.

Italy got a gimmie from the ref against Australia and France got one yesterday agaisnt Portugal. I am done with this crap until they make a rule that anyone who falls on the field has to stay off for a specified period of time, at least two minutes.

I agree. I play soccer, i love the sport but some of those are just straight B******. All they do is fall, and the facial expressions, they act like theyve been shot or something.

You got a good point about Zidane but you dont think he will tire out?

No, here's why:

He's already played in 5 games, why would he tire now? (He did not play in the last game of group stage)

These are incredibly well conditioned athletes, moreso than the 4 major sports in the US. Zidane is only 34, anyway.

Its as likely that another player like Henry, Toni, Totti, Grosso, etc tires as it is Zidane.

Plus it's the last WC game of his career. He has the chance to win the whole thing and go out on top. Not many get to do that.

Italy wins, if anyone cares. I just happened to turn it on and see the end.

It's not over Freak. U2 is offering an emotional soundtrack right now. It ain't over 'til Bono says it's over.

beautiful.

The final was a really good game to watch. Lots of chances, long runs, a corner kick goal, and penalty kicks.

Random thoughts:

The offsides call on the would-be go-ahead goal was iffy, at best.

I'm not really crazy about deciding the championship with a shootout.

Zidane ended a terrific world cup career with an inexcusable meltdown -- too bad that his headbutt might outlive the memories of his goals. Oh, and did anyone else get that maybe the only place the linesman saw the incident was on the replay screen?

Rome would be a fun place to be right now.
