Official Xbox discussion thread

I’m reading in a few different places that the first dozen hours or so are brutal to force yourself to get through. Saying it doesn’t really get decent until after that point and then it’s kind of lackluster. Then others love it all around. Not sure what to think.
I’ve heard the same. Haven’t been able to play yet since my daughter was up late last night but I guess I’ll see for myself today

I’m disappointed it’s not on PS5. I guess I’ll have to upgrade from my XBox One.

I'm about 4 hours in, and I'm really enjoying it so far. full disclosure I love large open world games that I get easily distracted from all the things to do. for me the first hour and half was creating a character, and doing the tutorial part. after that I was released to go do what I want. my guess is if you like skyrim and fallout 4 you will like this too.

As much as I enjoy Baldurs Gate 3, I needed a break. I had some extra money to spend ,and bought this. While I'm still getting the hang of things a few hours in,I'm getting a strong Fallout vibe from this. The battle with the space pirates between planets was a bit rough, but I'll figure it out.

I'm starting to really have fun with it now. I'm cool with the "Fallout in Space" feel it has going for it as (outside of 4) I loved the Fallout series. It's one of those as you get further into the game, you enjoy it a whole lot more. The side quests are really good, and there's so many. I can't wait to get home later today and play it when I have the time.

I said it earlier, I will 100% take a Skyrim/Fallout in space and be happy.

super glad they are going back to their single player roots. 76 and all the ESOs really take away from the main experience that made the games great.

looking forward to getting to play it tomorrow.

Got to play a couple hours this AM when I couldn't sleep. the level of "tutorial" is pretty frustrating. Here are the commands to move around and shoot, they are the same as any game you have ever played. Now we are just going to tell you you need to fast travel to this other planet, but we aren't going to tell you to scan for it, or what button to push even if you do scan for it. Doesn't tell you the button for the quick access inventory, or that those slots are quick keyed. most of me figuring out how to play the game is some mix of just being used to playing Betheseda games, and remembering the controls, and part just sitting around and figuring out what each button does on my own.

besides that game seems pretty good. haven't made it to anything exciting yet, but I have joined Constellation.

So far I am 12 hours in playing the game (got to play early). Loving the scenery especially New Atlantis. Graphics are phenomenal and the gameplay seems smooth for me other than a few crashes. The only complaint I have is I’m stuck in the Groundpounder mission and I’m not alone. A lot of people are having issues with this particular mission. So heads up if haven’t done this one yet be aware as it is bugged.

I found an SR-71 ship build that I’m aiming to do. I haven’t done a lot of reading up on what skills you need to make sure all shipbuilding aspects are unlocked, but I’m going to aim for that one.

I found an annoying bug, when it comes to settlement building. my first settlement didn't get a outpost marker in planetary view (it should have) after I put down the outpost beacon. so I would have to go to landing spot marker, get out, scan for the settlement, fast travel to settlement, get on large landing pad, click on the terminal, choose modify ship, exit, then my ship would be there. luckily this only happened with the first one, and my other 2 are fine.

so if you put down a settlement beacon, go to planetary view and make sure you get a outpost marker, and not just a landing marker. I ended up deleting my first outpost because of this.

Started my intro into base building last night. Took way too long trying to decide where I wanted to start my base. Picked Maheo II and found a spot where I have Fe, Al, Be, Alkanes, and some He-3 vents. If I run right outside the boundaries I will find an area with He-3 so I will probably make a close secondary outpost there. Can also find Yb on the planet which is a legendary element (dunno what for, though).

Side question, do gas vents replenish over time or are they depleted forever once you gather from them?

definitely starting to get the Skyrim/Fallout vibes, and I mean that as an absolute positive. the random dungeon crawls do keep trying to drag me away from the storyline.

I think my next main quest is Into the Unknown which is supposed to be things get interesting, and all the guides say to complete before doing other things.

I've read the same. If you're the type of player to stray from the main quest, which I am, to stay with the main quest until you complete that mission.

Welp, I ran into a brick wall and I will have to load an old save. I am currently trapped at the Red Mile. I am level 19, with a pretty capped out Class A ship. There is a level 30 pirate ship waiting for me everytime I leave the planet. I have tried running away but it can kill me really fast. I don't have the caps (I know) to fully upgrade my ship to a B class.

I have only had one, back to desktop, crash. maybe 20-25 hours into.
Biggest complaints so far would just be how much planet hopping you have to do for missions. seems like half my missions are, go to this planet, talk to this one person, and then leave and come back from where you were. I am sorry, isn't this the 23rd century? can't I make a phone call/skype, and be done with it? FTL travel, but pre-analog communications.

Also I am really not sure what benefit outposts are. They are fun to set up, and I like all the options, but I have 2 up, and the only benefit I am seeing is that I can share resources between the two, but I am not sure for what? Can you eventually do something with all the resources, or get some direct help from the workers? just seems like it is way too separated from the main game.

Saw a post on Reddit a guy that had 80+ hours and said you can finish the game without ever making an outpost. So I guess they aren't really necessary.

They weren’t necessary in fallout 4 either
at least in Fallout you had the people to help/save and could give them a place to live, you could set up stores to buy/sell from, and could even build artillery to help you fight.

Outposts in Starfield just seem like they are there. I was kinda hoping the settlers from the generational colony ship was going to be a settlement tutorial, but it wasn't.

Outposts aren’t needed, but they can be money-making machines. A lot of videos of people getting a ton of money and building whatever ship they want. That and farming resources for upgrading gear and making different foods.

if you haven’t started from an older save yet, you can travel to other planets without getting into your ship. Just go into the galaxy map and click on the place you want to travel to. Should work. I did it last night. Went from a house in Akila city to New Atlantis without ever getting into my ship.

dang, wish I had known that fast travel tip.

I did go back to an older save. basically got back to where I was when i had to reset. talked with a friend and he pointed me to a couple missions where you get better/bigger ships.

Money isn't really an issue for me. I am pretty much rolling around with at least 100k unless I buy or upgrade another ship. it doesn't take much for me to get to 200k.

Sorry, brother. I would have said something if I had checked this thread earlier.

What missions did your friend talk to you about? I just finished the Freestar Collective line of missions and got the Free Eagle ship which has 5x more payload capacity than the starter ship. Has been really nice. Started the Vanguard missions last night. Kept playing the simulator game until I could purchase the Pilot lvl 4 skill so now I can fly Class C ships. Next is Starship Engineering.

He was saying it was through Stroud, and that you had to do some more of the main storyline to unlock it. I dont think its part of the main storyline, just that its unlocked after some more missions. I think he also said you get something from Vanguard.

he also pointed out the Mantis mission, but I have already done that.
