Anyone here wonder when the NCAA will start getting involved in these arrest issues and slapping a 4 game suspension on players like Goodall does --- its bound to happen because of all the crap going on at PSU

I actually think this would be a good idea, it is easy to police matters in your favor with so much on the line but then again I would fear that it could turn into a Roger Goodell type deal

Post from another board

Well that is good news for #UGA. Mark Richt has decided that Branden Smith will not miss any games due to his arrest in the spring.

Seth Emerson ?@SethEmerson
Richt said they received enough information to decide he shouldn't be suspended. "We've got peace that we're doing the right thing on that."

Seth Emerson ?@SethEmerson
Branden Smith says he passed drug tests at UGA and the court in Alabama. "I don't do drugs," Smith said.

Barrett Sallee ?@BarrettSallee
Georgia's policy is that a drug arrest/failed test warrants a suspension of 10% of the sport's season. Smith is an exception, apparently.

Chuck Oliver ?@kingcfb
UGA athletic policy: a misdemeanor arrest=1 game susp. for FB. There's no disputing Smith was arrested. Can o' Worms, here. And not worth it

Barrett Sallee ?@BarrettSallee
Mark Richt has lost control of Mark Richt.

Guilty until proven innocent, I guess.

Smith was expected to miss at least one game as per the UGA athletic association’s conduct code, which calls for an automatic suspension for 10 percent of competition dates for violators of the marijuana-use policy. But central to Georgia’s decision to waive that penalty was the fact that Smith said passed two separate drug tests shortly after he was arrested in a traffic stop on March 14 in south Alabama.

“I came back right away to get tested [by UGA],” Smith said Saturday. “I was clean. I went to court, got tested, I was clean. I don’t do drugs. Now I’m just moving on from this incident. I’d like to apologize for the university and my family as far as being in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Smith was placed in the Henry County (Ala.) court’s pretrial intervention program and since completed the requirements to have the marijuana charges expunged from his record.

I'd say it's a legit question to ask. We're talking a little more serious than the TB situation. There was an actual arrest.

Not really ....only reason Tyler wasn't arrested is because daddy stepped in and made everything ok

Even Florida would suspend a player for this - even if it were a game vs VMI

People generally do not get arrested for property damage. Pay for the damages or you get a citation and fine, maybe appear in district court to determine the amount. Rarely, especially in cases of minor property damage, does anyone go to jail.

wrong , only reason Tyler was not arrested is because daddy made everything good and the girl decided not to press charges. If it was over 500 dollars it would have been a felony

Joke? I wish that was the case sometimes. The drug policy will get you punished for the first offense while other SEC schools don't even bother testing.

I can also guarantee you that Murray would have received a suspension if he would have been accused of what Bray was. The AJC would have been all over a story like that.

That's a bunch a bull. Countless of college males are throwing beer bottles every weekend without getting arrested. If you have been drunk during your college years, chances are you probably did the same thing.

Writing the word "wrong" doesn't make it wrong. You're just trolling.

Guilty as charged. I don't know if you are familiar with the way the Atlanta Journal Constitution operates here. They would be all over a story like that and would not rest until a punishment was handed down.

Not to get into it with Vol fans over the Bray incident, but IMO, only my opinion, I would hope CMR would hand down a punishment for an incident like that. You are the practically the face of the program and you're out throwing beer bottles at cars. Not very good judgement, but only my opinion.

And it is likely Dooley has handed some punishment to Bray for the incident.

I don't blame Richt in this situation. Maybe the drugs were planted by the cops. That stuff does happen. I'd say the fact that the player took multiple tests and passed indicates his being clean. If someone takes one of those "piss clean" agents, then that will raise a flag at the drug test because it will wipe out stuff in urine that would normally be there.

Remember the pics of Matt Stafford at Talladega? That's about the same level as what Tyler Bray did. Nothing happened to Stafford other than some extra running.

I realize that all college students like to have a good time, who doesn't? Throwing beer bottles from your balcony goes too far. You also answered your own question.

Edit: Sorry, I misread your post.

Guilty until proven innocent, I guess.

Below is the quotes from your AD and HC.

Smith’s arrest triggers an automatic suspension of at least one game under athletic association policy, athletic director Greg McGarity said. The policy is for a suspension of 10 percent of a season, but the coach has the discretion whether that should be one or two games in football. The policy is more strict than most colleges, Richt said.

Smith was arrested for possession - correct?
The policy covers use and possession - correct?
The AD said there was discretion with 1 or 2 games, but not zero games - correct?

Just going by your policy that Richt says is "more strict" than most colleges - until you need a CB.
