Ohio state wr coach talking about Gaurantano

And I would be willing to bet if JG played under that staff at OSU, he would have had a phenomenal career. I know some Vol fans on here will say otherwise. But believe it or not, coaching matters. Does ANYONE on here think Hooker would have been anything NEAR what he was under Butch? If you say yes you are lying.

Let’s face the facts. JG had better coaching at Bergen Catholic than he did at TN. And that’s a fact. This video says a lot. It says Urban Meywr and his staff thought a lot of JG. That’s not some run Of the mill coach we are talking about. Urban Meyer. Instead of playing under a real coaching staff JG played under Butch and McGump. I hate it for the guy.

Zach Smith is sketchy AF... But nothing he said her was controversial. Smith was the grandson of Earle Campbell (who was infamously replaced at OSU by Knoxville-native John Cooper).
I fell into a rabbit whole of him talking on a podcast or something and he was trashing Dan mullen and had some wild stories about urban meyer. Apparently urban is a nightmare to work for.

Probably why Jacksonville fired him. Winning at a high level will mask almost everything in college. Not so Mich in the NFL

So he beats out Joe Burrow, Dwayne Haskins and Justin Fields? Yeah his development would have been elite, but his “phenomenal career” would’ve been spent on the bench.

They stole Haskins from Maryland after Jarrett committed to Tennessee.

Sketchy would be the understatement of the decade lol.

Wasn't he the dude beating up his wife and ordering sex toys to be delivered to the football offices? Urban tried to cover for him and got himself forced out in the process.

Correct. I talked to his ex shortly after all that came out and none of it surprised me. Smith's behavior on campus was an open secret everywhere on the OSU campus.

Can’t steal what ain’t yours. They had taken Tristen Wallace’s commitment right before Guarantano’s announcement, but never stopped pursuing Haskins. Changes little to nothing. Would’ve been Burrow or Fields instead til 2020…just in time for Stroud.

Dobbs did pretty well here, so yes I think Hooker would also have been successful, though not as good as he was with CJH.

Butch wasn't a terrible coach. He was just a garbage human. More NFL players drafted under him than Doofus or Cornbread.

JG just wasn't good. Nothing really to do with coaching. He might have been better in a lower conference, but he was pretty bad at Washington State too.

I don't think any QB would have done well under Larry Scott as OC.

And yet a pro team wants and has him on roster. They must see something in him for that to happen.

JG wouldn’t have seen the field at Ohio State. He’s a good kid and I hope he continues to pursue his professional football career, but for the most part, when the lights came on he had some issues.

He had 4 OCs and 2 HCs at UT. Also got absolutely clobbered his first 2 years due to a terrible OL which can throw off timing in your head. Hard to be successful in those situations.

With Nico and Merklinger for fans to lust after, mentioning JG is quite the turd in a punch bowl to some, no? Much like mentioning Pruitt or Butchie boi. Fans don't want to remember those days I guess. Personally, I keep them all in the forefront of my mind so my expectations remain reasonable come football season. I remember where we were and no matter where we are, it's never going to be that bad again....or at least I hope I don't live to see it that bad again.

Never, ever, underestimate human stupidity. Especially, our rock hard tendency to repeat history.

coaching is to blame for some, but a lot is on him. He was the exact same way when he transferred to Wash. St. some of you guys need to accept the fact that he just wasn’t that good of a QB. Good guy & took a beating while never once complained, but just wasn’t that good of a QB.

D White disagrees as well as CJH. Too many changes have happened since that 5 year fiasco which followed the previous 5 year fiasco.

If Fulmer were still in a position to make boneheaded decisions, I'd worry. The fact that he's finally, mercifully no longer capable of doing much more than shaking hands on the hill gives me confidence. Still, we are UT. BVS will never leave this old man, but with White, I think we finally have and AD with a grasp of what needs to be done and how to do it. Doesn't mean he will always push all the right buttons, but Fulmer didn't even know there were buttons and where to find them.

Well, good luck with that, and I hope you're right. But historical evidence shows that time dims people's memory, integrity, and common sense.

Yep. This is spot on. You can hold a high opinion of someone, while also thinking that he wasn’t the best football player. Yes he had a tough situation, but anyone who watched knew that the decision making, the throws, the holding of the ball too long weren’t all bc of poor coaching.
