Oil Rig Explosion

I like Salazar always wearing the baseball cap ... reminds me of brownie and W rolling up their sleeves and standing around a table pointing at a map of new orleans .... comical

very difficult situation dealing with those kind of pressures a mile down ... hope the latest attempt works .....

It's all a charade that somehow the people in power actually have control of the situation. They didn't in 2005, they don't now. The scale of these kind of events aren't completely controllable.

A few hours in and I haven't seen much regarding the perceived successfulness of the operation.

No news = good news?

Nah... no news is just them trying to keep from setting the expectations too high. But, it is going very well up to this point. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hope I haven't jinxed the operations - but, the kill mud is definitely going downhole up to this point. The operation, so far, couldn't have gone any smoother.

reports coming in that BP has filled the well and are currently seeing if it holds pressure (if no problems develop) they will start pumping in cement

Yeah, it sounds like the top kill is going pretty well. Hopefully this shuts the thing down, because it looks like things are going to get nasty if we have to see another 45-60 days of this.

Two government teams of scientists have revised the government's estimate for the oil flow to 12,000-19,000 barrels per day. One team consisted of individuals tracking the surface oil and accounting for skimmed/dispersed oil. The second consisted of analyzing the video of the leak over a longer period of time, and trying to more carefully account for the water/gas in the oil.

That range sounds more believable than 5,000 BPD and MUCH more believable than 70,000 BPD. My guess was 20,000 BPD...sounds like I was a bit high.

May 14. I'm awesome.

I've read a few people estimating an amount in the 20,000 barrel range, based on the diameter of the hole and the apparent flow.

OK, I didn't have a clue, I just found better estimations that the ones TV news was broadcasting.

So they say the top-kill worked and they are now going to pump in cement to seal off the well

obama just outright blamed the bush administration for the BP spill. NICE. only a matter of time.

during the current press conference. he said that obviously the prior administration was too lax on oil drilling because of their connections will the industry.

Wow, he has been in office for about 1.5 years and is still blamming W

some reporter then asked him if he knew the drilling practices were too lax (because of the old administration) why did he ok further offshore drilling? he didn't really have a good answer for that.
