Oil Rig Explosion

didn't you imply that some arabs blew up the oil platform?

Nope.

North Korea

To be fair to me, I posed the question; 'does anyone think this report is true?'

I went on to explore the report and was the one who found the ultimate source was an internet hoaxer with thirty or forty false stories to his credit, some of which were reported by major news outlets, later to be retracted.

He is very good at his craft and often uses coincidental real facts to back up his story which on the surface makes them seem plausable. In about fifty percent of his jokes he quotes unnamed sources within the Kremlin, as he did in that case.

FWIW, Obama is announcing today that he will lift the moratorium on deep water drilling but that is too late to prevent some deep water rigs that have already pulled out of the guld, one or more were sent to waters off the Libyan coast.

No mention was made of his mandate recently for oil companies to dismantle and remove nonproductive rigs, even though an oil company may still have an active lease and plan to use the nonproductive rig from future drilling or as a support site for some other planned operation.

He still is keeping closed some of the most attractive areas off the Alaskan coast or on the north slope.

I realize this didn't start with Obama but question our long standing policy of obstructing new American drilling and recovery and question just who funds these politically powerful environmental groups who are so instrumental in effecting this self-defeating policy.

Back before he became U.S. President Obama served on the board of directors for the Joyce Foundation when it gave CCX nearly $1.1 million in two separate grants that were instrumental in developing and launching the privately-owned Chicago Climate Exchange, which now calls itself “North America’s only cap and trade system for all six greenhouse gases, with global affiliates and projects worldwide.”

I believe it is appropriate to have an ‘over-representation’ of the facts on how dangerous it is, as a predicate for opening up the audience.” — Al Gore, member of the Club of Rome and set to become the world’s first carbon billionaire. He is also the largest shareholder of Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX), which looks set to become the world’s central carbon trading body.

“We are grateful to The Washington Post, The New York Times, Time Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subject to the bright lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is now much more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries.” –David Rockefeller, in an address to a meeting of The Trilateral Commission, in June, 1991.

The moratorium is being lifted.

with the usual 11 thousand pages of restrictions, fee structures, fines, and enough minutiae to guarantee that those deepwater platforms that have already left will never return.

The moratorium is being lifted.

Supposed to extend through Nov. 30th but being lifted in October.

It seems like something happens at the beginning of November that is important to the WH but I can't remember what it is. Whatever it is I'm sure this early lifting had nothing to do with it....

The moratorium is being lifted.

I mentioned that a couple of posts ago. (853)

I heard one of the drilling companies moved 3 of their rigs overseas in the last 5 months. That's about 300 jobs gone from the USA. The company indicated those rigs will be gone for about 3 years. The African, Brazilian and Chinese government would like to thank us for those jobs. As we all know, we don't need those stinking (high paying) jobs anyway.

At least one rig went to Libyan waters.

Chavez has confiscated several in Venezuelan waters.

US - BP America Press Relations - BP clarifies various media reports today, 18th August

There are online reports claiming that the Macondo well is leaking and BP has responded with boats and boom. None of this is true. The well was capped on July 15th, 2010, when all oil flow was stopped, and finally cemented and sealed on Sept 19th, 2010. The well is monitored.

Last week, the US Coast Guard asked several operators with assets in the area of Green Canyon block 504 to investigate a sheen that had been sighted. BP and others did so, and based on our review, it does not appear that the sheen was from any BP source.

On August 16th, BP reported to the National Response Center a produced water sheen in the vicinity of the Thunder Horse platform. The volume was extremely small, and came from the platform’s produced water processing. Thunder Horse operations were unaffected, and adjustments have been made to the produced water systems.
