Was fishing in the Cherokee National Forest this past weekend and almost stepped on this guy. For some perspective, the branch in front was approximately one inch in diameter making the snake about the size of a man's wrist.

I hate snakes...Great pic, though. Maybe someone will know what type it is.

That's a BMFS that makes my sphincter tighten and forces me to change direction.

The offset bands resemble those of a rat snake. Rattlers and Copperheads usually have solid bands all the way around (I know that sounds confusing, but Google pics)

It doesn't look like herpes to me..looks like a snake :) I did ask a proctologist and he said to stick your finger up his azz and take the temperature..that should help clear up what kind of snake it is.

Water snake. They hang out in the grass clumps on the Hiwassee when the water is low. Going through there one day and my boot landed right beside a clump. The snake hiding there bit my boot two or three times before I could move away. I've had them chase trout on the line before as well.

.

Despite being non-venomous, water snakes are very aggressive and I hear their bite hurts like hell.
