Northern Water snakes are all over the Little River and decidedly too curious for my liking. I have had more than one swim out to meet me in the water. They are also hilariously capable of sending people scurrying out of the water! Never fails that someone identifies them as a Copperhead. As for those, I have only seen one while swimming and he did put me out of the water. Thing was fat as mud and beautiful, but eerie to see in the same swimming hole. They almost float on the water with their full body on top, while a Northern Water snake usually only has his head sticking up.
