Ok VolNation...Let's talk Oklahoma and Florida (merged)

VolDad thank you for the invite, I appreciate it and do intend to hang around to stay informed on how the Vols go through this transition and to keep my good buddy Big Papa informed of things outside the SEC. ;-)

While it is true defense wins championships that holds true only as long as the offense doesn't score atleast one more point than the team with the great defense.

The biggest hurdle we face is the fact that these long layovers between conference championship games and bowl games seem to affect the offenses much more than the defenses and I believe that has to do with a timing issue. I'm hoping that isn't the case tonight and it doesn't take us until the second half to get things going like it has for most of the teams that have played.

Don't be surprised if tonight you see us play the best defense we have played all year. While the layover might have hurt the offense a bit there is the chance Bob used the extended time to put more of own personal attention on the defensive side of the ball.

That being said I just hope the 2008-2009 Oklahoma National Championship shirt I pick up and sent to BigPapa fits him well and lets the blood flow to his head unrestricted. ;-)
you nailed me. I'm being a homer for the team I'm hoping gets pummeled.

FL's defense is the difference maker. they contain OK's offense and OK's defense hasn't seen anything like the likes of harvin, demps, rainey, tebow, moody et al.........

FL 45
OK 37

I don't know who is going to win, but I have to say that I cannot recall a national c-ship game with more pregame hype than this one. Maybe Texas-USC a few years back. But geez they got Obama talking about the game, coverage has been nonstop, plenty of speculation and theorizing, Hesiman story lines, and on and on.

Watch the game be a dud! LOL

Sadly, I'll go with Florida in a hard-fought, lower-scoring-than-expected contest.

Initially, I actually thought Oklahoma would beat Florida. But that was before Oklahoma announced that DeMarco Murray wouldn't play in the game.

I so want OU to win, but I don't think they have a prayer without some serious UF turnovers.

that possiblity does exist, both teams supposedly so offensively explosive, probably spending so much time figuring out how to stop the other..........i can see this being a little lower scoring than i expect. especially if one team gets sloppiy with ball security.

I hope Florida wipes the floor with them.

Don't think that will happen though, close game IMO.

I am very concerned that Percy Harvin is actually going to make a critical mistake or two in this game. He has that injury and has asked for his draft spot, which tells you what you need to know about his thought process. I worry he will try to do too much in an effort to bolster his draft status and prove he's healthy. Got to think the coaches have schooled him to stay calm and focused and not to use the game as a platform to prove something.

FL has not proven to be sloppy with the ball this year. for them to do that tonight would be against what they've proven to be over the course of the season. and i'm going to be hard pressed to think Harvin is the guy that's going to do it to them.

FL should be fine. the only way, i think, OK has a shot is if FL helps them. FL's D wont' shut OK down, but they have enough def team speed to contain them. and if they can get any pressure (biggest challenge for Fl's D imo) on Bradford, game over.

A la two years ago versus tOSU.

yep, but so far, i have no reason to believe that OU's offensive line is every bit as good as advertised

I assume you mean no reason NOT to believe.

But anywhosal, it will be a key to the game. Seems unlikely Florida DBs and corners can stop them completely. Going to have to depend on some sacks, hurries, and maybe a couple of picks to be successful.

I'm sure we'll have some blitz packages cooked up to throw OU a curveball, like we did in the Alabama game. I think in order to win we need to hold on to the ball, and keep OU's offense on the sideline.

Translation: Win Time of Possession

im gonna chime in here:

while i desperately want the turds to lose by at least 3 touchdowns, i am going to have to day that i think Florida rips OU apart by halftime.

I do not think OU can handle Florida's speed, blitz packages, and overall intensity.

All that, and expect the crowd to be 75% jort wearers.

OU is walking into a buzzsaw tonight.

All that being said...I hope I am totally wrong and the turds get destroyed.

I wont be putting any money on that hope, however.

I'm thinking OU in an upset. I've been impressed by Bradford, if he gets time to throw they will win. Florida is going to put up a ton of points though.

LG, that's correct.....i've no reason not to believe that OU's o line isn't as good as it's advertised.

I've put a whole lot of thought into this game, and I truly believe that the team that can run the ball, stop the run, control the line of scrimmage, put pressure on the other team's QB, not turn the ball over, force a lot of turnovers, make all their field goals and extra points, cover well on kickoffs and punts, tackle on the first hit, protect the quarterback, manage the clock better, not commit any penalties, and not give up any safeties, touchdowns, or field goals - that team, my friends, will win this game.
