No, but you don't have any "facts" that he can't either. I generally take a more adult approach and let there be enough information to make an informed decision before I go from thread to thread praising/denouncing a person.
Fine, although I don't think I'm denouncing a person. I'm simply being candid in my opinion that CCM was NOT qualified for this job, and nothing I've seen to this point says otherwise. To be honest, I've grown quite ill of all the pre-mature sunshine pumping. So, perhaps my posts are countering all this uncalled for pre-season euphoria.
I will let you know that if you go back to day one with Dooley, I said the same things about him. No one wanted to hear it then either.
I never said anything like this about Pearl. If you looked at his history and record you could tell this guy was a heck of a coach. No one wins that many games, regardless of level, if they can't coach.
Let's face facts, a prepared team, doesn't get beat like this. This team wasn't prepared.
If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong. And then you can put on your resume that you have excellent sports forum acumen, and that you gave me the smack down. I'm sure that will impress many.
I don't anyone can properly judge Martin as a coach at this point. To say he is incapable 3 games into his 3rd year is emotionally rash, as were the folks pumping his recruiting ability over the summer.
Also, and I am not specifically blaming anyone for this, but the talent level on this team is not especially high for a major conference. Rankings aside, I think we only have 3 players (Maymon, Golden, Stokes) who would be anywhere near a rotation of where we would ultimately like to see the program.
They shot 42%, scored 62 points and 23 of those came from the line...the defense w[h]en we weren't fouling was pretty good.
If you hold a team under 65, under 45% from the field and under 30% from three you should win...we did all 3 and lost handily.
WTF HAPPENED?? I'm just getting home, what the hell??? Weren't we picked to win this game??
I never read posts this long but this one was good. It's not like I don't have some concerns or doubts about Martin myself, but he is our coach so I am willing to see it play out a bit before jumping on one side of the fence or the other.
And yes this team wasn't prepared today, but going back to your Pearl reference, Pearl led some teams out on the court that weren't prepared either. So if a coach as good as Pearl can have it happen, then we should allow for it in other coaches as well.
Lastly, while you may be tired of sunshine pumpers. I grow equally tired of people that "knew" Dooley was going to fail and "know" Martin is going to fail. Dooley looks like he is on his way out. So what? In life, business, and sports, people usually fail more than they succeed. Why think you know something special because you predicted something that was statistically likely to happen? Do you walk up to newly weds and say "you know, chances are you'll end up divorced?" Do you walk up to a guy trying to start a small business and say "you know, chances are your business will go broke?" Or gloat to your friends, when a family member doesn't get a promotion, "I knew he wasn't qualified for that job"? I can right now predict that 64 of the 68 tourney teams will not make the final 4 this year. I could just go to the message boards for the 68 teams that make the tourney and state it as fact that "I know your team will not make the Final 4". I would be right almost 95% of the time. It still doesn't mean I know anything. It's much harder to be optimistic and upbeat about an unknown quantity, be it a new business, a new job or a new coach, so stop acting like people that are prematurely pumping sunshine about Coach Martin are taking the easy road.
To anyone that read all this. sorry for the long post.eace2:
