I can't understand the Oklahoma is inconsistent thing. they are the winningest team in the 2000's, only program to win all The different BCS bowls. won a nc, lost 3 others , 2 of them very close. Yes they had a couple of close games, it happens esp. In conference but they have the best home record in cfb under stoops. I am a Sooner, and now a Vol season ticket holder This will be the only time (until next year) I root against ut.

Not real sure how your allegiances work but anyway I am going to explain something to you. In the SEC we look down on coach BS because oky plays in a conference with 1 other team now, after the Aggies got smart and joined the SEC. So you and the shorthorns split conference titles over beating what for years have been little more than high school teams. Yes there have been the aberrations such as Baylor but for the most part you beat no one. Oky is only the winningist because of the poor conference, they are inconsistent because when they play a game against an opponent that is interested in playing them, they struggle. Bummer was not into the game against oky, they were pizzed they lost to their bitter rivals at the barn and that it cost them their place in the NC. Your players do not take the physical abuse week in and week out that players in the SEC do. It sounds like you may be new to the area so I will give you a pass on this. Your eyes will show you when you watch the games. As for this year, my VOLS will be way to young and inexperienced I am afraid to win in Norman. I think coach BS gets to brag for another year, but if the weather turned bad and equalized things or fumblitus hit ok then my VOLS are also young enough and brash enough to win the game because they do not know they can not. GMFBO!!!

The Big12 may not be the SEC but since Stoops has been there it is the second best. OU plays 9 conf. Games not many easy ones outside of Ks in the league, plus play a big non conf opponent every year, and rarely rarely play an fcs school. It sounds good to say OU plays easy schedule, but it's not true. OU played a top 10 schedule last year. Bama, ND, KSU (all #1 previous year) away from home and Oklahoma state, Baylor and Texas away from home. I doubt anyone in the country had that many quality teams away from home. I would bet OU has played tougher schedule than most SeC teams since Stoops has been there. 3-0 vs Bama, 3-0 vs Florida st 2-1 vs Oregon ( loss horrible replay call, and on and on. I know what sec football is all about and I am a ut fan for sure.

IOW, the university suspended him from the university but he's appealing and could hang around while the appeals process plays out which will probably be at least as long as the entire football season. Stoops hasn't actually suspended him from the team and although Shannon has been suspended from the university, he could in theory play all season because Stoops has done nothing. If that happens and Stoops decides to play him, then the university and Stoops can pretend to the public and the media that they've done something when in reality they haven't.

If that's accurate and Stoops decides to actually play this guy and doesn't even bother suspending him from the team, which he can do all on his own and which the player can't hold up in court via appeals, then Bob is on Urban's level of sleaze. Hopefully, Stoops will think better of actually playing the guy. CFB definitely doesn't need more Urban Meyer's when it comes to serious (not petty but really serious) charges against players.

OU has 7 losing teams on their schedule this year. UT 2.

A fair point, except Shannon was never charged with anything. DA declined to press charges, and the victim is declining to pursue as well. Since this is a title IX thing, the university has to do their own independent investigation, and apparently found him in violation of their conduct policy. Shannon is appealing this, and Stoops appears to be on his side. I guess Stoops talked to Shannon about it and feels confident enough that he didnt feel it necessary to suspend him from the team.

In all seriousness, even with their starting LB suspended we have our hands full no matter what with the Sooners. Might take the favorite line down a few points. OK will probably only be favored by 30 points now instead of 40. :thumbsup:

So you view him as a win at all costs mentality type of coach? Would your opinion change if I were to tell you that he kicked his #1 rb two years running off last year, toward the end of the season when they needed him most? Or that another example a couple years ago when wr depth was the most glaring problem, and he booted 3 receivers off the team. Anyway, what will bad PR do? I mean? Like, less recruits, less wins, touchdowns wont count? Just wondering why Stoops should care what people think. He never has and look where it's gotten him.

Nothing new yet. Police dept seems to be dragging their feet or they are just trying to get it right. Theyve seen the video of the incident and nobody's been arrested or charged. so that cant be bad right?

They were last year, yes. OU famously struggles when breaking in a new qb. It happened in 2009 with Landry Jones, he looked bad. And he's now the #3 or #4 all time ncaa passer. There were some struggles in 2005 breaking another new qb, and again in 1999. Coincidentally, these are the only three seasons in which a Stoops team did not win 10 games. There were times a new qb didnt have the same type of growing pains (Jason White and Sam Bradford come to mind) but they were both heisman winning qbs on teams that played for the national championship.

Really last year was a surprisingly good year going 11-2 with a tight end behind center for most of the year. They were implementing a new scheme, couldnt figure out a qb, and had two qbs who either never played or had no time to develop (Jones was a backup but only threw like 15 career passes up to that point). The point is the struggles were no surprise, but as the season went on, Knight got much better and then of course lit up the premiere program in the land. I know, I know, you like to say they didnt show up. But you must not have watched that game, and how hard they were playing and how well they were playing against OU in the beginning. They didnt know they were in for a game until OU punched them in the mouth. And puhlease, dont try to convince me they werent playing, because if you go back and look at the replays, or even at a 20 min highlight video you will see and its pretty clear that they were putting out effort and they wanted to win that game. Body language, the sideline chatter, the big plays, just the way they were playing, it was clear they wanted to win. They just didnt think OU was on their level and were proven otherwise. No big deal really. They shook things up and got Kiffin. Maybe if youre lucky you can be within a few touchdowns this year.

OU has some pretty quality depth at linebacker. Not so much at MLB though but they really like his backup Jordan Evans. Played really well as a true freshman last year in limited time. With guys like Grissom and Striker though, there wont be much time to pass the ball

University president David Boren released a statement Monday afternoon saying the school had reached a final decision June 18 to suspend Shannon from both school and athletic activities and "is taking every legal step possible to move this process forward."

"The University is currently seeking to enforce its decision so that it may be in compliance with federal law requiring responses by institutions to such matters in a timely manner," Boren's statement read. "With the fall semester beginning August 18, time is of the essence."

Boren added that federal privacy law prohibited him from discussing the case further.

Shannon led the Sooners with 92 tackles last season and has continued practicing with the team.

I don't think he will be suspended because there was no charges filed.

Hang on a sec. If he's suspended from the university, that means he's not attending classes. Bammer and Barn jokes aside, can a player who is not enrolled in or attending classes play football for the school?

I'm not sure if the Frank Shannon sexual assault circumstances were discussed in this thread. The short story based off local news reports; Shannon took a female student back to her place one night. He pulled down her pants with the intent of sexual activity. This is where there is an issue. He claims it was consenual and he stopped because he saw she was on her period and did not want to proceed. She claims it was not consenual and the only reason he stopped was because he saw she was on her period. No charges were filed. Because Shannon is challenging the Board ruling in court, the court imposed a stay on the suspension, allowing Shannon to attend classes and possibly play football. Bob Stoops has not revealed how he is going to handle the situation or if there are any legal reasons forcing his actions one way or another. Given how Stoops has handled situations like this in the past, I don't see Shannon playing for OU this year if it's completely up to Stoops. I would assume, given that the uncertainty in status regarding Shannon, Mixon, DGB and Mayfield, Stoops is leaving them out of practice for now.
