OL depth

The coaches as well as the guys at VQ have raved about:

Karic (probably starting)
Lampley (2nd into the game behind D. Davis)
Sham has pushed the other guards for PT
Johnson III solid RT option
J Perry repping behind Heard and impressing with his development
B Grant steady improving
Lang/Satterwhite (Hubbs said recently that he thought Satterwhite may have overtaken Lang there, but Dayne Davis will be the backup C, assuming he's not already somewhere else)

So we have a 2 deep of talented guys that have earned the praise of coaches and some media.

The rest are young and need more development, but have shown some talent and been mentioned a few times

Bussel
Ginther
J Heard
Duncan
Anderson
Thank you sir.

Placing my bet on a natty next week.

The SC coach has them taking Jujitsu to enhance their grappling, blocking, and pancaking skills. Scottish highland dancing to improve foot work, and Turkish whirling mandala dance to improve their countering more skilled block shedding defense linemen. Word is our guys are getting a bit too much enjoyment from these exercises. Lance Heard, however, required Appalachian clog dancing added because he needed more refined footwork to do, and to stabilize his weight.
Patches o’ hallahan is throwing wrenches at them.
Mr. Miyagi is making them wax his cars.
Norman Dale is making them practice without a ball.

Look, until we are out from under the scholarship / roster sanctions that Pruitt gifted us with then depth at every position is going to be a concern.

Really starting to think the injuries on the PAT is strategically done to give the defense a few extra minutes of rest. Any time u see us score in 2-3 plays someone goes down on the PAT.
What!!! We would never! How dare you make such accusations (sarcasm- i don’t know how to do blue font)

Nice summary! But, I thought center was the one position that Davis did not play frequently.

Glad to see competition at the backup center position. Unless we get a transfer (unlikely at center), Lang/Satterwhite will be the man next year.

Hubbs has said a few times that Dayne Davis would be the first center off the bench. so I’m really just going off what he said there cause I don’t really know.

OP, this is not the time of year for concerns. Kickoff is in 8 days, this is the time of year for unbridled optimism. GBO.
Sir, I am predicting a national championship. At this point it’s just a matter of how confident I am in that prediction. In other words, how much am I willing to bet? Injuries on the OL are the only thing that makes me nervous because injuries along the OL ALWAYS happen. So I’m just asking myself and the board if Karic, Umarov and the boys can get it done when called upon.

Think he said his only concern was the OL depth not the starting 5 and yes, Quality depth is a bit of a concern.
So, not concerned about the depth of a new, green secondary? I am more concerned with our secondary as a whole than any other unit.

Valid. They’re very young and even younger behind the projected starters. I still thing they’re more talented than any group Banks has had previously at UT.
Of course you do. Most of us do. It's called orange colored glasses. A wise man once said not so fast my friend. I hope they are an upgrade, but I'm not banking on seeing it early in the season. Experience in the secondary is crucial. And we severely lack it.

I can explain!

First of all I think this is the most athletic group of DBs that Banks has had and there doesn’t appear to be a huge drop-off from the 1s to the 2s. Most importantly, we can with average DB play if the offense and front 7 live up to the hype. I’m expecting this to be the best defense Banks has had, but even if the DBs struggle we can still win.

If the offensive line struggles, however, we are screwed. Our starters might be the best group in the SEC, so no concern there, but offensive linemen get dinged up regularly and our tempo will requires us to rotate guys out occasionally… then there’s the issue of a 17 game schedule…so it seems to me like the backup OL could be our weakest link. I’m NOT saying they suck. Just saying their performance will most likely be the deciding factor in at least a game or two.

If everyone stays healthy I think our DBs could suck and we’d still go 10-2.

Boo carter is the most talented recruit they’ve had back there since I dont know when. Jordan Matthews is up there. Turrentine too . Add in Caleb Beasley and it’s easily the most talented secondary they’ve ever had since Heup has been here by leaps and bounds.

Kamal and who else from 21-23 held a candle in the wind from a talent standpoint?

Taylor and Jackson were pretty good but we have some guys now who can be elite, IMO. This is a lofty comparison but Gibson III reminds me of Jonathan Hefney. Carter is one of a kind… future 1st rounder but inexperienced. The rest of our guys are as good as any secondary we’ve had. That isn’t saying much but with Pearce off the edge and Josephs coming along, they won’t have to cover for long. Pili and the A. Carter will be best blitzers Banks has ever had. People forget that pass rushing is part of pass defense.

We just replaced nearly our entire secondary and your only concern is maybe our strongest unit? Okayyyy....
For some reason I’m less concerned about our secondary than any of the previous years. I have nothing to back my confidence other than my gut. I really liked how the younger corners played last year when they had a chance. I liked Andre Turrentine when he got his opportunity. We’re hearing great things about the new Oregon State transfer. The star position is the main singular concern for me in the secondary. But I feel like Boo will take that spot a few weeks into the season once he gets a hang of the defensive scheme. Left guard is where I’m really terrified though.

I think the bowl game is giving a little false confidence. Iowa's QB in that game was really, really bad. I'm rooting for them but let's just say I'm gonna wait until Sept 7 11 PM to claim we fixed our secondary in 1 off-season. And I will gladly do so if it happens.

Yea I can respect that. I hope I’m right. But I feel like our main issue with our secondary in the past was not being athletic enough to deal with the SEC. We’re definitely upgraded athletically. Let’s just hope they can put it together.
