OldTimer’s Dugout - General Topics, Chat, Random Photos and Memes.......No Politics

Hey @Buddy’s Bandit, not to dismiss your work, but did you know the answer, or see the sign in the background and do a little google search? Either way, way to earn a (maybe underage) winner picture!

I knew it the second I saw it. At one time, that was the furtherest point in west Knoxville. Showing my age, but I can remember picking blackberries where West Town is.

I don’t either, that was probably a poor example on my part.
My gripe is that consistency in college football is gone. It is now ruled by chaos, greed, money and has been corporatized.
Players transfer in and out of schools like it’s nothing, schools are jumping conferences daily. And do t think that’s going to change. As soon as the SEC offers USC more money, USC will Sue their way out of the BIG10.
We are not too far away from having corporate logos slapped next to the power T on the helmets.
Do we even know what the Sugar, Cotton, Peach bowls are even called now?
We now have a mega conference playoff that will continue to expand, simply because the guy that finished 2nd, was no longer satisfied with being able to argue that their team should’ve, could’ve, would’ve, beaten the champ, like we did in the old days. Now we have to include everyone and give everyone a participation trophy.
The point of my old man rant is this...
I love college football and I really enjoy pro football, I just enjoyed them more when they were separate and different, not the same.
🤷‍♂️

I don’t know, there’s lots of changes, but not all of them are bad.

First off, regardless of the downsides, I believe that student athletes should have the right to transfer to seek a better opportunity for themselves. I don’t think it should be that any student (and even coach) in the country can transfer, but for some reason athletes can’t. Sometimes the way you were doing things wasn’t right, even if you didn’t realize it at the time. Let’s not forget that all of this started when video game companies were making huge cash off of the images of college athletes, who could not be compensated because of rules that really weren’t fair.

As for the rivalries, as a football season ticket holder, I do think it’s a bit monotonous since 80% of the home schedule is the same and just rotates every other year. I’m excited about getting other SEC teams in Neyland more often.

At the end of the day, I enjoy college sports. Things are changing but I’m not going to be bitter about it and let it detract from something that is fun. I love to go to Neyland with my kids and cheer for the Vols, and am happy to root against any opponent we face (although some more than others).

Are ya saying he’s a candidate for MVP? 😉

At this point I don’t see how he doesn’t win it. He hasn’t slumped all year and the longest he has gone without a hit is two games, unless you want to include the All Star game, then that would be three games. But he only had 2 AB in that game.

I've seen a tweet where Freddie Freeman is nipping at his heels for the MVP Award.
