In the age of transferring every year, everyone’s a free agent, the transfer portal and NIL have all contributed to a “it’s all about me” and a play me now/pay me now mentality. We got lucky when we got Tony, before all this NIL stuff hit. He had time to show his vision and what Tennessee has to offer the top ball players in the country and the focus isn’t the money. That will come later if you are lucky enough to play here. I don’t know if a new coach on Vitello’s level would be able to show that in this day and age of NIL/portal era?

Indeed. I also love the story about a potential transfer whose Dad made it clear it was primarily about the money. CTV told him the meeting was over and TN wasn’t the place for his son. He has also stated in numerous interviews that if you want to come here for $$, don’t waste his time.

The good thing about college baseball is you have to prove it on multiple levels and over a large period of time on the field. Good motivator for the team though if they choose to care about it right now.

Oh, they definitely don’t care about the rankings but they will still use it as motivation because they are an undefeated defending national champion and yet there are some prognosticators out there that refuse to rank them accordingly, even though the lone team ahead of them lost to Omaha lol. It’s honestly a slap in the face they aren’t ranked number 1.

It would be abnormal for 18-22 year old males to not care or not look at the rankings. Tony surely doesn’t give a rats ass but I would find it hard to believe the players don’t look at the rankings. Even if they don’t directly look at them, there are thousands of people telling them about it so they are well aware.

It’s funny because we are now the kid who’s lived on the block 8 years. At first, we were just an irritant to them, but now we have solidified our baseball fortress and they are finally beginning to admit that. We are better, at least statistically, than we’ve ever been. A true powerhouse. It feels great!

We now have something Arkansas has yet to accomplish so they have no other choice than to admit it. LSU has built up a lot more equity so they can think and say whatever they want.
