Ole Miss Defense Is Better Than Ours??

We do have a glaring weakness in our D and Georgia most likely will exploit it.

Our linebackers are somewhat slow and do not live up to what some like to hype.
Carter and Tealander are decent SEC caliber backers, but we really need elite, not average. JMO

I think this will be our achilles heel against Ga in a 24- 21 loss at Ga.

That’s what the Georgia guy said on SEC Football Final last night. They are pretty good but I don’t believe for a minute they have a better defense than ours. Discuss.
The answer to your question is no. Currently, Tennessee has the fifth ranked defense in the nation. Ole Miss comes in at 17. These stats were updated today. Our defense should do better than Ole Miss. We're playing them on the road, but as Nick Saban said about this Tennessee team - "The Defense Travels". Go Vols!!!

I liked OM's offensive schemes better that what Hype does. As much as I don't like it is apparent his O plan is strongly run oriented to just pound the ball until the opposing D wears down. And it has worked so far so not complaining just saying I prefer the OM game plan better. Hope Hype picks up some tips from the film of that game.
Maybe pound the interior line early in the game w PLewis and CSeldon (big boys) and bring DSamp in fresh in the 2nd half to utilize his speed and shiftiness to our advantage.

Ball game - VOLS!

Delmar, you have been tippling from the jug a bit too much lately. I didnt like what I saw yesterday in some areas either but lets be serious here. MS is NOT at the same lvl as UT defense.

Two of the 3 best Ds in the SEC. It would be splitting hairs to try to claim one is "better" than the others. My opinion that I believe the stats bear out is that UT, Texas, and Ole Miss have the best Ds in the SEC this year.

Ole Miss got GA at home and in the rain. As much as anything GA did not handle the rain on offense as well as Ole Piss. Sad thing is Kiffen FINALLY won a big game so now I guess he is the best coach in college football.

Common opponents and outcomes for Georgia

bulldogs vs Ms State @ Athens won 41-31
Vols vs Ms State @ Knox won 33-14. Nico didn’t play in the second half.

bulldogs vs gators neutral sight won 34-20
Vols vs gators @knox won 23-17

bulldogs vs Bama @ Tuscaloosa lost 41-34
Vols vs Bama @ Knox won 24-17

bulldogs vs Kentucky @ Lex won 13-12
Vols vs Kentucky @ Knox won 28-18

i think we stand a very good chance of beating Georgia @ Georgia

Common opponents and outcomes vs Ole Miss

OM vs Ky @ OM 20-17 Ky win
Vols vs Ky @ Knox 28-18

OM vs Ok @ OM 26-14
Vols vs Ok @ Ok 25-15

OM vs Ark @ Ark 63-31
Vols vs Ark @ Ark 14-19 loss

OM defense may be as good as ours at times but not on a regular basis like ours, they gave up 29 at LSU and 31 to Arkansas.

Let’s take this season into January and win a NATTY!

Ole Miss has 46 sacks in 10 games, and we have 22 in 9 games - they definitely are more effective at getting pressure on the QB and that was a key in their win yesterday.

We give up 12.6 ppg to their 12.9
They give up 79.9 ypg rushing and we give up 99.7
We give up 272.1 total ypg to their 309.2

The sack stat is only thing that's really significantly different.

Remember Georgia's touchdown came immediately in the game with the real short field following the turnover. Without spotting them excellent field position Ole Miss only allowed 3 points. I would love only giving up 3 points next game....

Ole miss got them at home in the rain. Georgias offensive line got wrecked by Ole Miss. I'd say we're about even at the line but Tennessee has a better defense overall and better depth

A big difference will be Ole Miss played them at home whereas Vols will play Ga in Athens. DLine has to disrupt the Ga OLine as much as Ole Miss did. Ga looked worse the longer the game went on.

Ole Miss DL is just as elite as ours. And if you were just to take yesterday’s games, then you could say OM has a better defense. But you can’t just use one or two games to judge a 12 game schedule.

Our defense is better. But they haven’t been playing their best the past few weeks. Yet still they are elite.

I'm not sure it's a kryptonite thing as much as it's an aggressive defense thing. Our defense is an attacking defense. When you play that way there will be some games throughout the season where you'll get gashed. The trade off for this is the fear you put into QB's. The last 2 teams ran well but the last 2 QB's also looked rattled and 1 didn't finish the game. I think early in games we play the run way more honest. The moment we get a lead those dudes are hunting.
That makes sense if we're giving up the occasional breakaway, but we're not. We've had two straight games of teams consistently moving the ball on the ground. Our two worst performances, both over 4.5 yards per carry.

Duh. I think you misread something. The Georgia guy on the SEC Network said that and I disagreed.

I think they do since we lost Pili. I underestimated his importance and the impact of his absence.
I thought his injury last year was huge. After we crushed Alabama's run game, I thought we had built a good enough structure to survive losing him this time, but the run d these last two games has been troubling.

Their pass rush is significantly better than everyone this year. Stats vs run are similar to
TN But Vols have been much better against pass. Overall we are statistically better as a defense in pts and yardage. We will need to dial up more pressure against Beck

No one has scored 20 yet on our D. Yesterday we played zone all game, so they broke some runs. That will not be the case this week.

The answer is yes. Prior to the Kentucky game our run defense was the best around, but we got away with the occasional wide open receiver (our zone leaves a bit to be desired) due to lousy qb play on the other side. Last two games our run defense has not been good. I'm worried that Kentucky found our kryptonite.
Found our kryptonite? Or we lost Pili ?

Don't think their defense is better but their offense sure is. Guess we'll find out soon

If we can fix our run defense, we can hang with Mississippi or Texas.
