Ole Miss Postgame Report

Where was yemi. He didn't play great early, but they drove the lane countless times and hall nor stokes stepped up one time for a charge on several opportunities. Could've made a difference.

Several times in this game Yemi let players drive by him and made no effort to move or attempt to stop the drive. He is usually a good post defender, but wasn't last night. That very well could be why he was on the bench, rather than in the game.

The biggest beef I had in this game other than the pathetic turnovers (many unforced) and the missed FT's was the decision not to let Richardson guard Henderson. Martin put McBee on Henderson in the 1st game. Total disaster. Then he has McRae running through screen after screen in the 2nd half when he's been our only offense and now he has him on Henderson when Henderson was jacking up shots from Memphis? That's a complete head scratcher. I know Richardson had 2 fouls and then got 4, but you put your best perimeter defender on him and go with that.

Henderson has now scored 60 points in two games. One time might be lucky, but two starts showing a trend. A trend that the coach doesn't know how to defend him.

I can't help thinking how Bruce would, more often than not, take his bunch of underachievers on the road and knock off the favorite at home, making Vol fans feel all warm and fuzzy inside as well as confident in the outcome of the season. Conversely, Cuonzo takes his bunch of underachievers on the road and, well, you know the rest...

Yeah, if only Pearl was still coach, we would likely be undefeated and win every game by 20--30 points, much like his last game against Michigan.

You'd have to have a Manti Te'o-like imagination to believe that. But what we're seeing now on the basketball court makes it hard not to pine for the good old days. It was good back then, whenever I found myself among fans of other teams, not to have them snicker when they spotted my UT hat. I see the Michigan game as an aberration largely because our coach was operating under extreme duress from the ncaa goons at the time. I just wish our program could get back to the level which once made us proud. This ain't fun.

There is absolutely nothing to feel excited about on game days. Same ole' SLOP ...its pretty sickening coaches get paid this type of money to put this on the floor!

Like I said when Doolster was still here - we've got the most popular coaches in the conference. You know it's bad when fans of rival teams keep telling you UT has a great coach we just need to give him more time. I'm sure Ol Miss thinks cuonzo is great and we should keep him forever.

Lack of effort and energy should land Stokes right beside him. Imo

Yep. But I look at stokes first game and it was his best. Now after practicing college ball for a year, he stinks. I think cm is playing him wrong. He has no moves to be a back to the basket player. He needs to have space and needs to see the rim. Then develop a little bank shot and you are ok. He is being misplayed and miscoached. And I think that adds to his passiveness. He looks to have no idea what is going on.
Maybe halls 4 yr funk is wearing off on him.

Cuonzo made some really stupid coaching decisions last night that most high school know better than to make.

1. When you have one primary scorer, Jordan McRae, you don't assign him to the other team's primary scorer in man to man or he will lose his legs chasing him around the court. Lose your legs, lose your shot. Missed his last 2 FTs.

2. McBee should go ahead and sign on as a GA. His career is over. He's a broken player. Why Martin continues to put him on the court to embarrass himself is unexplainable.

3. Trae is also a broken player. This is on Cuonzo. Trae is a bulldog with the basketball, kinda like a rb with the basketball. He's not a passer, doesn't see the court well, and Cuonzo is trying to make him do it. He loses the focus needed to attack the basket and his confidence is destroyed.

I agree with all of this. Great points.

I thought we played with great energy all night. We fought hard and really should have have won the game. Ole Miss is in the top 25 for a reason. They are pretty good. We can't make all of those mental mistakes in such critical moments. We just aren't good enough to make room for avoidable errors.

Despite this team being frustrating and consistently disappointing, I still think we have promising pieces.

This is not the year I envisioned. But I still like the general direction of the program. We should only improve with time.

I agree. He looks like is over thinking the game way too much. His first game he just went out and played. I keep saying it, but the effort thing is what is killing me the most. Just go out crash the boards like a madman, and let the rest of the game come to you.
Good lord don't say that, if he gets the Hall funk. Well I don't wanna talk about that. Lol
