There really isn't much analysis necessary in explaining why Taurasi was just named to her 5th Olympic team, while Ogwumike is still waiting for her first... it's obviously much easier to be named to a USA women's basketball Olympic team when you are a former UConn player, as opposed to having played your college ball anywhere else. This isn't just our inferiority complex, or an anti-Geno bias anymore. There is something very unnatural about the relationship between UConn and USA Women's basketball. There is favoritism at work. Ogwumike should be on that team.Fisher: Ogwumike's Olympics snubs 'a travesty'
Gives a bit more insight on how Nenke was a core player a year ago. I'm happy Fisher spoke out on behalf of his player. He's right the injury excuse is BS, DT is injured and not playing and has chronic back issues. They need to stop with the BS, it's gotten so bad it's a joke.
The snubs to non UCONN players made USA Today.
2021 Olympics women's basketball roster has notable snubs
The selection process is biased, sad and pathetic. Some would say crooked. The selection committee really needs to be replaced. USE PROFESSIONAL COACHES INSTEAD OF COLLEGE COACHES. Stop giving unfair advantages to schools in the recruiting process.
okay I was with you until the Griner part yeah she has done many things she regrets in the past who hasn't she is 6'9 who has been playing great as of late it would be like Australia leaving off 6'8 Cambage because of her "nasty attitude"Lmao what a bunch of BS. Dawn is as culpable as anyone.
“worried about injury” with Nneka. Give me a break .
You’re concerned about injuries but loaded DT and Sue bird on there? Neither of whom have played an entire season the last few years due to lingering or severe injuries. DT’s back will literally never be fully healthy again, same with Sue’s knee. Sue is 40 and DT is pushing it. They have 4 gold medals, taking up another spot is just greedy and classless.
Also don’t think Griner should be on the team. She has low character and she’s not the best center in the W by a long shot. Really don’t think domestic violence abusers should be on Team USA. People grow and change, but serious actions have serious consequences.
Sadly I won’t be watching the women in Tokyo. Until the Olympic Committee decides to make it fun and fair again I’ll be tuning out.
So glad softball is coming back though!! Have missed it at the Olympics.
As a side note, if anyone with WNBA connections reads this board…..
Rapinoe is in more WNBA ads than most of the actual players. Why are two white women the face of a league that’s 83% women of color? Have stopped watching a lot of WNBA coverage because it’s boring and only covers 3-4 UCONN players who aren’t even the ones lighting it up in the league this season. Half the time it’s not even about basketball but whatever off court they are doing.
Also, enough with Maya Moore. She stepped away from basketball. Can we let it be? If she needs a platform for her prison reform and social justice she can make her own. Needs to stop cabbaging off the women’s game that she’s not even willing to lend her skill set to anymore.
Turns out, most BASKETBALL fans tune in to basketball coverage for BASKETBALL.
1. Rapinoe is NOT in any WNBA ads
2. The only time they bring up Maya and the WNBA is idk she played in the WNBA for a very long time and is easily one of the most recognizable names in the league with a long list of accolades
3. WNBA is about basketball I watch to see them play basketball but at the same time ppl like listening to the stories that make up the league.
