One question I would like to ask Butch Jones

Nope! Remember how Dooley was recruiting all those "High Character Guys"? :good!:

Actually, I think Dooley was trying to and was also having relative success recruiting high character players. His main problem was managing a game. If VolNation has ever agreed 99.9% on anything, it would be Dooley sucked at that.

Kids will be kids, and remember these are kids.

They are not kids. Once they turn 18, they are adults, and should be responsible for their behavior. Granted, they are still young, and are going to make some mistakes. However, those mistakes should never include serious criminal behavior. Those who use that to excuse the commission of felonies are enabling it to happen.

Trust me guys, I want the wins. More importantly, I want to be proud of this team. Over the years that all these incidents were going on, I was sick of watching it on TV, and reading about it in the newspaper. I couldn't watch the Vols play. I just hope Butch Jones gets this part, because I want to be proud of this team.

1. Why drag up an issue if problems have not manifested themselves? Since about 2.5 into the Dooley regime, we haven't had any real major police involved incidents.

2. Jones' only trouble cases to date have been apparently academic, personal issues, and team disciplinary matters. No headline incidents involving the law.

3. Don't know about you but I was expected to be responsible for my behavior around age 8 or 9. By then you have a pretty good idea of right and wrong if your parents have done their job. Problem today in part is those d&^% overzealous social workers/child protective services. I'll never argue against their existence given today's poor moral fiber of parents themselves but these sw/cps people go too far. So parents are often afraid to discipline their own kids.

4, About players not being kids, just because the law says you're 18 thus an adult doesn't make you one. The kids can be sent off to die overseas as military personnel but can't legally vote. So if they're not treated as adult citizens, are they adults? That semantics utterance aside, you forget a truth. Teenagers and young adults are at that risk taking age. They think they're invincible. Just look at the numbskulls risking life and limb with skateboard and bicycle stunts, late night car races along city streets, cinnamon challenges, and so many other acts of stupidity. It's their nature. Not an excuse, but every generations has this problem with the wild and risk taking nature of youth. It's compounded today by Benjamin Spock and sw/cps BS. As well as high incidents of single parent and other dysfunctional households. So in a sense, the players are kids because they haven't received the guidance that used to exist in the past. When you have your civil servants and community leaders behaving as they do, the role models that used to help before are often as bad or worse than the kids themselves. Growing up us thus seriously delayed.

I'm sure there's one big question on everybody's mind, and I imagine you are the man to answer that. How is Elvis, and have you seen him lately?

1,322 hours of community service since January, training with KPD, and "in order to win on the field you must win off the field"… you think any of these might help?

GO VOLS!

The fact that the team just had the highest semester GPA in history says the players respect the coach and are buying into his process and leadership. The fear of disappointing someone they respect will lead to fewer incidents involving the police.

Why the hell did you hire Willy Martinez?

Because he can recruit lights out perhaps? The guy is a recruiting machine and had SEC ties, which most of Jones core staff did not.

I guess when such activity stops in the non-athletic student population and also in the general population, then maybe it will stop in the athletic population.

I hope you did not spend much time thinking up this question.

Have there been problems since bj got here?

May just be me, but bjs always solve my problems :dunno:
But my opinion is, Butch cares more about the character of the players and the family aspect which will help that immensely.

I know we are all excited with the hope that Butch Jones and our new staff have brought about positive changes in recruiting, and player development to restore a winning tradition to the University of Tennessee football program. However, if I could ask Butch Jones one question, it would be the following:

Coach Jones, over the past few years, the football program at Tennessee has had a problem that has been ongoing through the tenures of Phillip Fulmer, Lane Kiffin, and Derek Dooley. Players being involved in incidents like bar room brawls, armed robbery, theft, shop lifting, assault...the list goes on and on. I realize this problem is something that has occurred, and continues to occur at most every major university, but in recent years, it has seemed to plague Tennessee especially hard.

How is Butch Jones, the current staff and university administrators addressing this disturbing trend? I only ask, because no matter how well the team develops, and no matter how well you and your staff recruit promising talent, what does it matter if players continue to embarrass the program, the university, and the fan base?

Until someone forwards this question to coach Jones, what does VolNation think?

You forgot to hang up and listen.

This is just stupid.. to think u can recruit 85 players n all of them stay out of trouble is crazy.. then u put the top 10 percent of the talent that's it all about me n come from freaked up backgrounds n u have a few that get into trouble.

If u want to win championships u r going to have some thugs around if that's not what u want then root for duke or Harvard or someone.. to play in the big time u have to have the meanest sobs around.. otherwise lets all play flag football n have tea afterwards...

Can we please start the season now!!!

what you said.

My question to Butch Jones would be, "Why have you not recruited Jack Lipkin to the Football team". You guys need to check him out, the perfect image of Tennessee.

I just wanna win.. F the rest

That's whats wrong with athletics today, winning is the only thing that matters. So what you're saying is, if you had a kid playing
you wouldn't care about his character as long as he's winning

I am totally sick of all the thugs. Not just at TN but all sports.

At the first sign of a player committing a serious offense, they should be booted from the team and lose their scholarship.

Some say they are kids and this should be tolerated to some degree.
I disagree, they are young adults and should know better and have respect for our university.

0 tolerance for thugs!.

I was once on a football team (very briefly) while attending a small private college. I ended up being accused of stealing other players' and my roommates toiletries. Mainly because I wasn't from a moneyed privileged family, the accusation was believed. The coach had to appease the faculty in terms of image they wanted to portray, much like VU. I was reminded that we had all been told the first signs of trouble, we were off the team. Which often meant you were also dismissed from the college. However, because the college wanted to claim they were moving towards diversity even before this term was so roundly used as it is now, plus my grades were very good, they let me remain in school. I believe also because one teacher in particular listened to me. Despite being 17 years old, I had no facial hair and no underarm hair at the time. So had no need for shaving cream and I had from home, care boxes of under arm deordorant, soap and cologne to last me all semester. Three weeks later, more toiletries started missing. Since I all but lived in the library, I had an alibi in almost all such cases. They had a student to hide atop the lockers in a duffle bag. Smallish fellow, he was, a teachers' pet. The culprit was caught red-handed. Lo and behold, it was their star QB and the product of a serious donor family. He was one of three teammates that didn't like me from the get go so that's why it happened. It was hushed up. The coach and dean apologized to me and requested I return to the team. No thanks. I joined the wrestling team instead.

Point? There is a reason grievance procedures, and waiting until all the facts are in before making a decision as opposed to knee jerk reactions. We haven't had any thugs lately so I must wonder why you're bringing it up. Regardless, I'm so glad that CBJ and the UT has a procedure in place to handle things instead of letting you do it. We wouldn't have a team otherwise if guy sneezed and it sound like ansu instead achoo, he'd be gone.
