I was once on a football team (very briefly) while attending a small private college. I ended up being accused of stealing other players' and my roommates toiletries. Mainly because I wasn't from a moneyed privileged family, the accusation was believed. The coach had to appease the faculty in terms of image they wanted to portray, much like VU. I was reminded that we had all been told the first signs of trouble, we were off the team. Which often meant you were also dismissed from the college. However, because the college wanted to claim they were moving towards diversity even before this term was so roundly used as it is now, plus my grades were very good, they let me remain in school. I believe also because one teacher in particular listened to me. Despite being 17 years old, I had no facial hair and no underarm hair at the time. So had no need for shaving cream and I had from home, care boxes of under arm deordorant, soap and cologne to last me all semester. Three weeks later, more toiletries started missing. Since I all but lived in the library, I had an alibi in almost all such cases. They had a student to hide atop the lockers in a duffle bag. Smallish fellow, he was, a teachers' pet. The culprit was caught red-handed. Lo and behold, it was their star QB and the product of a serious donor family. He was one of three teammates that didn't like me from the get go so that's why it happened. It was hushed up. The coach and dean apologized to me and requested I return to the team. No thanks. I joined the wrestling team instead.
Point? There is a reason grievance procedures, and waiting until all the facts are in before making a decision as opposed to knee jerk reactions. We haven't had any thugs lately so I must wonder why you're bringing it up. Regardless, I'm so glad that CBJ and the UT has a procedure in place to handle things instead of letting you do it. We wouldn't have a team otherwise if guy sneezed and it sound like ansu instead achoo, he'd be gone.
You are twisting things.
No one, said anything about booting innocent players.
As to why the subject was brought up, fans are getting sick of all the bad things players are involved in. (All sports, not just college football).
Shootings, bar fights, theft, assaults, drugs, murders, and the list goes on.
