His first year he said that he doesn't make his players stretch. Am I reading too much into that? Because he had 2 Achilles tears the first year and he's had a ton of ACLs and muscle tears. Maybe I'm just looking too much into it, but I was always bothered by that. Anyone in sports medicine that can shed some light?

I don't know what he meant by that but for some reason they stretch before every game don't they? I know I've seen them do that. I think. hahahaha

I think he said in the first year it was optional. He got questioned about it after the back-to-back Achilles tears. But Randolph's ACL and Curts ACL seem like they should have never happened.

Yea but ACL's happen every year to every team that stretches. I know we stretched under Fulmer and Kiffin and we still had them. Can't stop it. JH knee injury last year was going to happen whether he strectched or not the way he come down.

One of the new theories of stretching is that it puts too much stress on the ligaments, tendons, & muscles. I've been told to think of a cold rubber band when you stretch it. I don't necessarily agree to it, but the theory is out there.

My HS football team went 2-9 my senior year. We stretched for about 20 minutes before EVERY practice and EVERY game..

We still lost.. still had injuries.

Non issue.. move along.. nothing to see here.. lol

Sorry, I know nothing of sports medicine. But, I can tell you that the players do stretch before games because you can witness them doing so during pregame drills/warm-ups. Not sure about daily practices.

My trainer subscribes to this philosophy.

No scientific study has ever shown that stretching before athletics lessens injuries. Stretching after athletics has been shown to increase flexibility. Range of motion has been shown to decrease injuries, i.e. 75% sprints, high knees, crossovers. In other words, mimicking the motion you will perform in a sport prior to that sport at a lesser intensity is beneficial.

There is nothing out there that shows stretching prior to activity prevents injuries. You can disagree with me, and most do when they first hear that but it's the truth. I personally would advise some form of stretching just because it gets you going and feeling a little better, but it's a non issue as far as the injuries go.

You need to get your engine started and warm up on a cold morning. To warm it up, you would run the engine for a few minutes. Your muscles are a big engine, and you need to get the juices flowin, and the blood pumping. It's like baseball.

I don't know for sure. I just know I thought it was strange given all the injuries. I mean, a lot of guys tear ACLs in football, but NORMALLY it seems like its because of an awkward hit (Lattimore, Eric Berry). Hunter's tear was reminiscent of a basketball injury, which seems logical as well. However, Randolph was just running down the field, and Curt barely got nicked. Again, I don't know either way, I'm just bringing it forward for discussion.

You have to admit, we've had a lot of stupid injuries.

so let me get this straight...the one thing you have always had a problem with considering dooley is that the players don't stretch? Interesting...for me it has always been that the guy can't win.
