yes (though not 100% since we should have gone to a bowl imo). It helps that he has done an A+ job in recruiting

It helps to keep in mind that he came in and had to play with Dooley's players. Plus at the beginning of the season when everyone was predicting us to go bowling, no one expected Mizzou or Auburn to be anywhere near the level they are.

Ask me after next year or the year after that.
He has three seasons in my book to show what he can do.
And maybe a 4th if there is year to year improvement.

I just wanted to see what everyone thought seeing as how it's the 1 year anniversary of his hire.

Question is too simple. What do you mean by "approve"? Coaching, development, recruiting, PR, etc?

Some things he gets an A+... others an F.

needed a win, to go bowling, so outside of it being Vandy...That should have been motivation enough to win it

I will give him his three years to prove himself.

Recruiter - excellent, much better than I expected.

Coaching staff - very average. Really rolling my eyes at "best coaching staff in the country comment."

Schemes - average. Defense is really suspect regardless of the talent issues. Too many holes on the field against good teams. And I have to wonder if anyone on the coaching staff knows how to teach tackling? Offense is hard to judge because of execution issues. Using Pig on the outside against taller players is just ridiculous. They can not get him the ball.

Fashion Coordinator - excellent. Came up with nice alternative uniform that was irrelevant to the program and win/loss record.

Public relations - average. Good with fans and players. Created major riff in initiating a confrontation with band director in which one of them was eliminated.

Academics - excellent. Removed the program from APR vulnerabilities after 3 years of incompetence by his predecessor.

Game Management- average. Won the USCe game and lost the Vandy and UGA games with his game management. Was never competitive in other SEC games.

Player development - Better than average. I give him credit for what he was able to do with Palardy, Sutton, DB's, and the running backs. Not sure on WR's, LB's, DL. Not impressed with the inability to get a yard with an experienced OL when it was needed but I really should not be surprised at this because he could not get that yard 3 times when he faced Dooley.

I would give him a C+, B- for the first year. He said that he has had to change a lot of habits. He will have a considerable different group of players next year and those habits should be evident.

I do expect a minimum of 7-5 next year. Anything less than that is very average.

I believe in Butch, but voted no based on this year's results. It takes time to rebuild a program, so I'm expecting improvement next year, but how can anyone approve of the on field results. It was an ugly year on the field.

However, off the field, he is kicking butt and taking names. I fully expect a different vote next year as he has more time to right the ship.

He should get a yes off of recruiting if nothing else. He has a team that went five and seven but yet is 2nd in recruiting according to Rivals. It's crazy not to approve of that.

Public relations average? Disagree completely. This is perhaps Butch's biggest strength..... has been great in this area IMO. Also, the band/band director situation was between the Athletic Dept, the university and the band.... not Jones.

Otherwise, agree with most everything else.

Since you have gone into so much detail on judging the coaching staff (good and bad), you must be held to your own standards. Here are some very suspect comments you made:

Pig Howard is too short to be used on the outside. Someone please inform the Carolina Panther's coaching staff that they are also "ridiculous" to play 5-time Pro Bowl WR Steve Smith (5'9") on the outside. And, he's going against much taller, better, higher jumping, etc. DBs in the NFL than are generally found in college. Sometimes size isn't everything.

I think CBJ's PR campaign should be judged quite a bit above just average, even if you blame him entirely for the band controversy. You are in a great minority on this opinion which, by definition, makes your assessment of average PR incorrect.

"Was never competitive in other SEC games." (outside of SC, UGA, and Vandy). You neglected to mention that we were competitive against Kentucky.

You strongly criticized the defensive coaches and even asked if anyone knew how to coach tackling. Seems to me like they made tremendous strides on defense compared to last year. We moved up on total defense rankings by more than 30 positions compared with last year, while playing the toughest schedule Tennessee has ever faced.

I agree with many of your statements, both positive and negative. However, you have too many factually unsupported opinions to receive anything higher than a C- or a D+ in my scoring system.
