best recruiting since fulmer and 2 plays from 7 wins with the toughest schedule in school history. yeah he's ok

and about 2 plays away from 3-9...

Be careful, that game can be played both ways.

he gets a D on the field and an A off the field. Hopefully next year brings up the on field results.

I approve his job performance so far but he has to get some results on the field next year. He has excelled in recruiting and getting the fans back into the stadium but all of that could change if we do not see them preform on the field.

Two plays?

I understand that if Palardy had missed the field goal against SC, we lose. That's one play.

OK, you have one left. What other single play changes another win into a loss?

Since you have gone into so much detail on judging the coaching staff (good and bad), you must be held to your own standards. Here are some very suspect comments you made:

Pig Howard is too short to be used on the outside. Someone please inform the Carolina Panther's coaching staff that they are also "ridiculous" to play 5-time Pro Bowl WR Steve Smith (5'9") on the outside. And, he's going against much taller, better, higher jumping, etc. DBs in the NFL than are generally found in college. Sometimes size isn't everything.
We wasted downs trying to get him the ball outside. The defenses covered him very well.
I think CBJ's PR campaign should be judged quite a bit above just average, even if you blame him entirely for the band controversy. You are in a great minority on this opinion which, by definition, makes your assessment of average PR incorrect.
Yes, I am in the great minority here. The band director had his flaws I think that when you are struggling to become a relevant football program in the SEC there are a lot more important battles than with the band director and what kind of music you are playing at the stadium. After all, we were 5-7 this year. That has nothing to do with music and uniforms.
"Was never competitive in other SEC games." (outside of SC, UGA, and Vandy). You neglected to mention that we were competitive against Kentucky.
Glad we won that game but just how was Kentucky football relevant in the SEC this year?
You strongly criticized the defensive coaches and even asked if anyone knew how to coach tackling. Seems to me like they made tremendous strides on defense compared to last year. We moved up on total defense rankings by more than 30 positions compared with last year, while playing the toughest schedule Tennessee has ever faced.
Yes we were better this year on defense. We was also better the years that Wilcox was here also. But tackling was an issues in every game we played this year, not just the games in which we were not competitive.
I agree with many of your statements, both positive and negative. However, you have too many factually unsupported opinions to receive anything higher than a C- or a D+ in my scoring system.
I think I supported my opinion to the level of your response and as far as your score, it is ok since you are not paying me a couple of mil to produce a competitive SEC football program.

Now to grade the professor:

Pig plays receiver. Steve Smith plays receiver. Comparing one to the other based on size alone, and not factoring Smith's ability to gain separation from almost any db on the planet is incomprehensible.

In the public relations assessment, you make a valid point.

On the competitiveness in conference play, most readers would assume that the game in which we beat the team that lost every conference game as well as a neutral site game against WKU is implied by the fact UT won the game. When competitiveness is spoken of, it is almost invariably done so from a standpoint of moral victories and this type of conversation is typically inapplicable to games which were actual victories.

Hanging your hat on a comparison to "The Sal Initiative" should be grounds for immediate expulsion. You speak of a team ranking of 80 in total defense as tremendous improvement. Supposing last year's 107 ranking was the rule rather than an anomoly, you might be correct. On the other hand, when you compare this to the last time UT ran a base 4-3, you would see that this year's ranking is far lower than the 2011 ranking of 28, so you are incorrect.

Summary
1. Zero credit
2. Full credit
3. Half credit (feeling generous/no child left behind so you have to get credit for something)
4. Zero credit
Total score - 37.5% = FAIL

This is a near perfect assessment. If not for Worleys improvement and a miracle catch against USCe it would be an on-field F.

Off the field he is flat out going Gruden.

The Vandy game made me question him.

Vandy has a good football team and will have until JF leaves for the GREEN some people just don't get it this is there best there program has been in the last 100 years and we are on one of our worst streaks in a 100 years so if you add them up this is what you get I don't like VANDY, but they will win as long as JF is there.

Totally feel that CBJ did a great job this year. I have been in the army for 30 years and understand what happened with this team this year. These kids were so poorly condition for an up temp style of football that it seemed as if they quit. They will be better conditioned for 12+ games next year. "Break them down to exhaustion then build them up". This will work but it takes time.

If I was ignoring the recruiting, I'd be on the fence.

If you look at the recruiting, you are nuts not to say yes, at this point in time.

This is easily the best class since the 90's. If we pull in Mosley and another 1-2 big names, this could be the best class in UT history. There were some SICK ones in the mid/late 90s too.

Butch's coaching ability is still under consideration, his recruiting ability, so far, is top notch.

Off the field, with recruiting, public relations, and player academics & discipline, Butch has been phenomenal and gets an A plus !!!

On the field, with player development, game planning / play calling, motivating players to overachieve, and meeting the minimum goal of a bowl game, Butch only gets a C minus. It would be an F without the Georgia and South Carolina games.
