I understand the university has to sell sponsorships on the facilities but I don’t have a rooting interest in the facilities. I do have a rooting interest in the Tennessee Vols. Maybe now we’ll have to get used to the Tennessee Vols sponsored by Adidas. You mean the team that plays at Food City Center or the team that plays at Neyland Stadium. Proudly preserved by Pilot?
I'm right there with you. I'm not happy with ANY of this EXCEPT the football. I’m being a little facetious on the team name but it’s going to be tough changing my thinking to a professional model after 60 years of following them. Like I said, I’m just too old. I’ll still follow them but it won’t be the same feeling. If others like following pro football, more power to them. It used to be semi-pro anyway. It’s going to be full blown pro now. Student participation will no longer be needed.
I hear you. I guess I’ll just hold my nose on the corporate influence and pro atmosphere and enjoy it as long as I can. If it gets too bad, there’s always another golf course to play.I'm right there with you. I'm not happy with ANY of this EXCEPT the football. The football is good.
I've tried to learn about WTF happened then had to divorce myself from "taking it personally as a fan" (for wont of a better phrase.)
I've seen a lot of traditions fall, great old trees cut to widen roads, tremendous old buildings razed for a new one, etc. This is another one.
I've decided my job is to watch good football. Let the younger guys wrestle with CTE, NIL, transfers, politics, or whatever, I'm just here for the football.
And, all in all, it was a pretty good football season for the Vols and, IMO, college football in general.
Call it crazy all you want but this is what happens when so many wanted the NCAA dismantled. Nobody gave any real thought into how or who would govern. Now that the NCAA is all but powerless, teams and conferences can do whatever they want.
Yeah boy college football sure does seem a lot better off without the NCAA![]()
So stopping a system that exploited and cheated college athletes saddens you?Bingo. It saddens me what the state of college has become. The ones who said to tap the brakes on all of this were not listened to and now we are all suffering the consequences as fans
I don’t have to adapt. I can lose interest and choose other entertainment venues to spend my time and money on. That‘s quickly happening and I won’t be alone.
Then why are you here whining about it?
Don't let the door hit you in the hindquarters.
BTW, in an adapt or die world, refusing to adapt and losing interest is a form of "die".
Self inflicted death is still death.
People who don't like what they are seeing are fans of an illegal system and exploiting college athletes. That is disgusting. Appalling. Fandom of breaking the law. Horrible. Nauseating fandom of exploitation. The better question is why do you have such a problem with people who don’t like what they see in college football today?
Matt Rhule is canceling Nebraska’s Spring game because of the portal. Other programs will probably consider doing the same. Is that good for the fans?
The schools don't care what's good for the fans. That's what we've learned in this. The better question is why do you have such a problem with people who don’t like what they see in college football today?

I think cancelling spring games is GREAT.l!!!
They were stupid and unrealistic. I never got near a single one. Waste of time, money, and effort.
They risked unnecessary injuries.
They risk giving away plays to the opposition.
Anyone with a cell phone can scout them.
It doesn't take a Connor Stallions situation to see that.
Because they didn't know any better. Now they do. Nice Appeal to History logical fallacy, though. And yet for about 100 years high school athletes were begging to be exploited and punished with a free education, world class medical care and nutrition, free academic tutors.
I wish I was exploited like this in college
Wrong. The schools care very much what's good for the fans. Competitive teams are good for the fans. Transfers and NIL are good for the fans. The vast majority of the schools use both. Ergo, they care what is good for the fans. The schools don't care what's good for the fans. That's what we've learned in this.
UT is knee deep in suing the NCAA for trying to regulate NIL and transfers. Is that good for the fans?
Like it or not, those we root for aren't on our side in this. UT has had enormous gains in football since NIL and no penalty transfers became a big thing because Pruitt left us screwed with sanctions.
What we hate has helped us and we were in the playoffs in part because of our strong NIL and strong usage of the portal. Do you hate being in the playoffs?
It's double edged. It just is. It sucks a lot and it helps a lot.
For over 100 years women couldn't vote but it still wasn't the right thing and it wasn't until the 70s that women could get credit cards without their husband's approval even though women "had it great" in America. And yet for about 100 years high school athletes were begging to be exploited and punished with a free education, world class medical care and nutrition, free academic tutors.

NIL prohibition was wrong. Whether it "worked" or not, the NCAA is paying billions to former players because it was in violation of Federal Law.
It's chaotic, in part, because UT and other high revenue schools WANT it to be as open as possible. That's obvious from the lawsuits they get the state of TN involved in and the blistering Antitrust accusations Donde Plowman gave the NCAA for coming after us.Again, I’m not against paying players, it’s just chaotic the way it was implemented and combined with the portal has made college football less appealing in my humble opinion.

The current state of affairs proves that UT is exactly on the fans' side. That's what strategies to field competitive teams do for the fansIt's chaotic, in part, because UT and other high revenue schools WANT it to be as open as possible. UT isn't on your side in this. They just aren't. They want the Wild West and they're doing very well in the Wild West. UT, whether fans do or not, is going to adapt and is thriving in this chaos.
No, but the old player "loyalty" and "happiness" was obviously forced and often a product of school's cheating.Eh, that's not exactly a fair comparison. Everything about playing in a sport is a choice. The gender you're born with is not a choice.
Everything about college football was upfront. And no one was compelled to play college football. It wasn't forced upon them as a condition of being born.
