Personally, I like it. No schedule killers, the sub 250 RPI teams, but at the same time not too daunting of a schedule.

They are all very winnable games, and all games that if you win look pretty good. I like it.

Also I count 13 OOC games, so it's looking like a 31 game schedule FWIW.

Pretty good looking OOC schedule I hope we're up to the challenge, Cuonzo Martin not afraid to schedule tough opponents.

A lot of these teams were good this year, but most of them are rebuilding. Wichita State loses their top five scorers, Xavier loses four of their top five scorers, and Virginia loses the only player that made them decent (Mike Scott).

Memphis should be good next year; though, so that's a chance for a quality win. The Puerto Rico looks stacked as well.

It doesn't really have many cupcakes, though. That's always good for the SOS.

Not that bad but I wish we had one or two bigger name teams on there.....maybe we will draw one in the big east challenge?

We should get a decent team in the big east challenge, and we also could play NC STATE who will be around #5 pre season.

I hope they are ranked that high......even if we lose, I love the games that have me running around the house acting nuts if we happen to pull off the upset......I remember the Texas game, I had just gotten back home from working out of town and I had to hurry and get my Christmas shopping down...people were looking at me as I was jumping around my car yelling and going on....I couldn't stand it anymore and hurried and found an ocharleys so I could watch it on tv. LOL

CM needs to concentrate on recruiting some players. Other than Stokes he has been a disappointment. Like him so I hope he can turn around his mid-level recruitment.

I agree with this Bleeding. Also I think that losing Memphis after this season on the schedule may actually help us recruit Memphis better. Now no reason why I think this. But we have struggled recruiting Memphis (except for Stokes) with the Tigers on the schedule. So going forward it might be a big help in recruiting Memphis in the future. And its what Memphis wants!! Any opinions on this from everyone?

I don't think it will hurt as as bad as some think, but I also believe that we will still be a presence there. They've talked about adding a neutral game in Memphis verse a team every year, basically just to have a presence in Memphis, good idea IMO.

I agree with this. And I think that with Tennessee not on the schedule with Memphis then there won't necessarily be a huge huge effort to not want us to recruit Memphis like there is now. I mean it is an all out effort by practically everyone in Memphis to not allow Tennessee to recruit in Memphis because we play them every year (and beat them too alot). With Tennessee off the schedule there won't be any pressure to beat Tennessee like there is now and it won't matter as much to the city of Memphis (like it does now) if we sign a few players from there. Now that doesn't mean it won't still be hard but less pressure for Cuonzo to get in there. JMO

Where would this neutral game be played? UofM would never allow UT to play another team in the FedEx forum. So i guess UT would have to play either one of the small colleges like CBU or Rhodes college, or play a worthy opponent at the ancient Mid-South Coliseum.

Little late to the party, this has already been discussed at great lengths on here.

CCM doesn't care if they play in a HS gym, the point is to just play a game in that area.

I have lived near Knoxville for many years and had never driven to Memphis. I did it last week. Now I can see why it is so hard to get kids out of there. There have got to be 3 or 4 other major cities you can get to from Knoxville before getting to Memphis. I know part of it is the rivalry, but distance has got to play some factor in it too. Add the two together and cracking Memphis may be more trouble than it's really worth.

For 2 reasons

1) it doesn't seem to help Memphis' success and they pull the best out of Memphis routinely

2) Calipari is easily the best recruiter in America and he doesn't obsess about Memphis recruits. Even when he was in Memphis he got player from elsewhere.

What I am saying is, recruiting in Memphis is fine, but Martin shouldn't spend any more effort there to get a guy than any other big recruit. And UT fans should stop getting so infatuated with kids from a city that is barely inside the state lines. If, by some chance the larger part of Memphis had sprange up on the Arkansas side of the Mississippi River would people be as obsessesed about recruits in Memphis Arkansas? I just don't think so.

1. If they had a coach that knew what he was doing it may help a little. Id hate to see where pastner would have Memphis if he didn't land any of those talented guys from the city.

2. Calipari recruits 5*, and that's pretty much it. He's recruiting king and jw3, as well as Nichols, the only 5* in Memphis. If jajuan and markel were 5* calipari would be on the as well. He basically, if you look at it, recruits the top 30 players in the country or so, and rarely goes outside that.


I heard CCM talk awhile ago about this, I don't remember if it was Memphis specifically, but it was about in state kids. He said they like to go after in state kids because many of them realize that they are playing for their state, and will sometimes play harder because of it. Maybe that's part of the reason as to why.

Also, especially next years class, where else can you make one short plane flight to, and see 8-10 guys that you're recruiting? You can't do that anywhere else during HS season, so by going to Memphis he's able to check up on 8-10 recruits in one trip.
