I tried to buy tickets at Opry Mills but it's sold out for weeks. I may have to settle for "regular" IMAX at my local theater.
At least regular IMAX has great sound. You can optimize your viewing depending on where you see it. I'll make another post below this.

Christopher Nolan’s Advice
Sharing his opinion, the British-American filmmaker stated that he prefers to choose seats based on the kind of anamorphic lens being used to project a film. Therefore, the cinema experience for Oppenheimer is designed for over a thousand PLF (Premium Large Format) screens. This will make things easier for any type of audience to enjoy, regardless of their filmmaking knowledge. The options include 70mm, 35mm, Dolby Cinema, IMAX digital, IMAX 70mm and a lot more.

When in a theatre with a Cinemascope ratio (2.35:1 to 2.66:1), Nolan prefers to be seated towards the front, right in the middle of the third row. Meanwhile, for IMAX in a stadium-sized viewing at a 1.43:1 ratio, he actually prefers to sit behind the centre line, further back in the middle. It’s a practice that has developed thanks to years of experience and experimentation.

According to Nolan, his intention behind the widespread availability of film formats for his latest release is due to the fact that he wants to give people an experience that they can’t possibly get at home. This movie is supposedly created with the highest-resolution film cameras that exist. If you want to know what they are, we’ve got that part covered. Filmed entirely on large format film stock, Oppenheimer uses a combination of Panavision 65mm and IMAX 65mm to deliver a picture with rich levels of clarity and immersive depth to drown out every thought of reality.

I like Molan and generally enjoy his films but this deep dive on where to sit is coming off highly pretentious.

Looking across the box-office this summer he should just being encouraging people to just show up at all.

I think he prefers quality over quantity

This is just fascinating.

The movie ships in MANY boxes and they splice it together AT THE THEATER.

This shows the process. Additionally, Oppenheimer is now the longest IMAX movie ever, so they had to extend their platter diameter to hold it!

So he wants a quality audience as opposed to quantity of people showing up?

Bad news for him. If people don’t show in quantity he won’t be getting the money to make any self indulgent film snob movies.

I don't think that's gonna be a problem and also I appreciate his $0.02

My comment was more towards the general box office numbers this summer have been very weak over all. Not really a comment toward the quality of his movie which I’m sure will be good.

People just aren’t going to the movies in the numbers they were pre-Covid.

FWIW, Barbie is expected to out perform it by a pretty wide margin. That movie looks terrible.

I'm here for both. Initial RT reviews have Barbie at like 95%

Nolan gets blank checks to make movies. Bad news for you I guess.

I checked for IMAX tickets this weekend, and there are apparently quite a few people excited about this film...

I know I am. Of course, I really get into history, documentaries and the like. I'm also a Cillian Murphy fan from Peaky Blinders. Just hope they do the story justice and stay true to it.

I said I enjoy his movies.

Doesn’t mean I don’t think all this hype for watching a history drama in the optimal seating position isn’t a bit pretentious.

Pretentious if warranted is A OK with me. Glad there are directors like this out there working. Better than Transformers or another underwhelming superhero flick.

Is it truly worth the hype? Haven’t been to the movies in a while, but this one has peaked my interest.
