Optimistic take on the game:

We played without our best player, our most consistant player and best rebounder

despite all the first half turnovers and the 1 million fouls Ok. State only scored in the 60s, pretty solid defense

A lot of the offensive rebounds Ok. State got were just weird bounces from long range shots, not so much a positioning or rebounding issue by us on those

Shots just didn't fall, our offense was anemic, but usually a lot more of those shots will fall

We should learn a lot from this game

Pessismistic take on the game:

nobody played well, not a single person had a good game offensively

we are seeing a theme in fouling way too much

Kenny Hall just did nothing

this offense needs a lot of work to understand how to move the basketball in order to get the ball inside via pass or drive. We can screen on the perimeter and get open jump shots all day, we do that very well, but we don't move the ball well enough to find a posting man. You can pass a post player open....we don't do it.

Ok. State was without 3 key players and drubbed us anyway

OK State was running clock the last 6-8 minutes of the game. They were spreading us out and getting to the basket at will. The score could have been much worse.

are we really this bad? Looks exactly like the start of last year. looks like the defense of the football team. inept in every phase. Embarrassing

Short answer, no we aren't. It was a bad game. That's all.

no, I don't believe we are that bad. I think we dominated the last 2 games we played despite the final score because we fouled them into the game. This particular game just couldn't score, that is pretty much it, I am fine with every other facet of how we played outside offense so it isn't a lot to worry about IMO.

Offense is usually the easiest thing to fix for a basketball team

Also there won't be another game this year, that was this early in the AM. From the sound of things most people on here have never played organized basketball and have never had to play this early.

:swoon3:That's it. I'm officially throwing in this towel on this team. They've looked much worse in the first three games without Maymon than I expected in my worst case scenario. I don't think even the return of Jeronne Maymon can fix what ails these Vols. Fully expecting a bottom 7 finish in the SEC now. This ain't a team that can challenge KY, FL, or even conference newcomer MO any time soon. Was hoping for something to cheer about after the miserable letdown in football this year.

I'm going back to drinking at least through the winter.:beerf:

This team can't get itself good shots. Their first option is to get the ball to Stokes and hope he bails them out (he didn't today). Their second option is to pass the ball around the perimeter until somebody takes a jumper (those didn't fall today).

They need to fix this. Set screens, drive to the hoop, cut off the ball, put pressure on the defense. Today, they couldn't make shots on the perimeter and that allowed OKST to just pack the paint. Good shooting and good ball movement can open up good looks (and we had neither today), but good player movement can do it as well. That's scheme, and I hope Cuonzo improves it.

You seem to be overlooking the fact that OK State had no trouble playing this early.

I don't understand why CCM kept allowing the perimeter players to jack up three pointers. Especially when OKSt went small with lineup in the middle of the 2nd half. We had success with dribble drives to the rim the few times we attempted them...but mostly it was come down, throw up a missed 3, and trot to the other end. Awful.

A poorly coached game imo. And McBee is just taking up space.

They shot 41% fg... They had trouble shooting too. They didn't play good at all either this is a case of who sucked worst.

I would add that we're not seeing much motivational effort from the coaching staff.

The bottom line is we are gonna struggle without Maymon. Not just talking numbers either, he is our leader. If he is on the floor he makes the other guys wake up. He helps Stokes not get double teamed and with guidance on the court. I think people tend to overlook the fact that he was really a big brother to Stokes on the court last year.

Another thing is kept reading about Q and Edwards. Read people saying Edwards would give us 7-8 rebounds a game, that Q had a nice all around game. So far they just are not ready, aside from one game. That being said when/if Maymon gets back we will be fine. And I think the way we played today was more of a blip than a trend. Sunday will be very telling going forward.

Good lord. Relax people. Basketball teams lose games. Panicking at this point is absurd. One loss does not mean the sky is falling.

I'm not panicking, I'm speaking factually. I think we will be a good team, a really good possibly great team when Maymon comes back.

Guys relax!!! If you follow BB much at all you remember last year??? Coach lets them play their way as teaching tool. In other words gives them enough rope to hang themselves. Then he says your way won't work this is how we do it period. He has lots of new parts that are jelling. At 1st I was watching 1st couple of games and thinking he's not coaching as hard as last year, then I remember him talking about that!! It's a long year and coach still has some work to do. Let's just relax and watch it work out!!! Trust me what's not working is fixable!!!

Dumbest argument ever. Talk about making excuses. Ok St. Was playing at 9:30 am their time! Our team looked completely unprepared and uninterested in this game. CCM's adjustments, or lack thereof, we're a total disappointment. I understand all teams have poor shooting nights, however, to continue jacking up 3's when you are not making any is just poor coached BB. I really thought CCM instilled more discipline than this in his teams. Golden must improve as a PG if we are to play in the big dance this year. Stokes needs to play up to his hype as well. Hall is always going to be good one game, horrible the next. He's been that way for 4 years and it isn't going to change. Without shooters, this team must go inside first and kick it out if needed. On a positive note, it can't get any worse than the Kevin O'Neill ball we played today.
