Option for cable cutters and football season...

I've read some negative reviews regarding the sound quality with Sling TV. Have any of you had any issues with sound, or any other issues? I've been considering making the switch for a while now. I really like Charter, just too expensive. Thanks in advance.

We've never had an issue with the sound.

For those wondering about CBS, Fox, NBC, etc., check https://www.tablotv.com/tools/ to find free channels that can be picked up, supposedly often in HD, over the air for free with an antenna.

I'm considering cutting the cord once my ETF for Comcast drops a little lower further into my contract, and Sling + OTA channels is the route I'm thinking I'm going to go.

It's funny you post this as I just switched to sling TV and so far I really like it. I canceled my Direct TV yesterday (oh to see them cry as I left). Sounds quality seems to be fine. Have noticed any bad sound. I am streaming over Comcast 75 MBPS internet and it works great. Every once in a while it will flake out but just for a second or two. I plan to just put up a digital antenna to get the local channels if they happen to not be playing on ESPN or SEC Network. I already have a good one I use to use before I got direct TV.

Last year, we cut cable and went with antenna, Prime, and Netflix. Been just fine. The major hang-up that we just lived with was lack of sports programming and having to make provisions for UT games.

Sling seems to fill everything we need and more. 'Cept the only minor issue is that you get only one stream with sling, so may have to coordinate in family setting.

For those who might miss ABC, CBS, and NBC by going with Sling, fear not!

With your Sling subscription, you get free access to WatchESPN which means you will not miss out on any sporting event that comes on ABC!

You can watch any CBS sporting event for free on their website!

NBC is the bad apple of the bunch as far as accessibility goes. But this is the Notre Dame channel so who cares lol!

Are ABC,CBS, and NBC not available over-the-air most everywhere assuming an antenna is in place? Antennas are a one time cost and less than a monthly cable bill typically.

It really all depends where you live. Even if you check online to see channel availability, you still have to test it out to be sure.

Even if you want to watch ND you can for free on NBC Live extra app. I also like Chicago Fire and Chicago PD and watch on Hulu plus.

Sling TV is great for most viewing but I got my cable back for football season. There is no way to record or pause and the buffering is frustrating as there is no way to catch up with what you may have missed. I got the broadcast networks but there is no fox sports, NBC sports or CBS sports networks. I will drop cable again after the bowl games but couldn't see myself missing out on do many games.
As far as the KODI that someone mentioned, it is great for movies and TV binging but it really doesn't do so well with live streaming. While you can find nearly every game the picture quality (at least on my computer) is really not good. While sling TV may buffer a few seconds occasionally, KODI will lose signal for several minutes at a time.

I'm getting ready to cut the cord, so I've been researching and testing what to do. I live in Hendersonville, about 20 miles from downtown Nashville. I got an indoor HD antenna from Amazon for $6.27. It's about 8"x5". I figured I could afford to take the hit if it didn't work. On one side of the house, it picked up 27 channels. In my office, on the other side of the house, it picked up all but the local NBC and a home shopping channel. It has a little stand but laying it down is not a problem. Many channels are better than on cable. There are some free apps you can add to your Roku or other devices that stream local channels. NBC here is one of them, so that's all covered. I expect to add a package of all ESPN channels just during the season.

No date yet but Google fiber is coming to Nashville. $70 a month for 1 Gigabit internet and $60 more for TV. Just hoping they run it out this far.

Edit: I didn't expect people to think that Google fiber had a data limit. The 1 gig I mentioned is the speed both download and, reportedly, upload as well.

Chattanooga's EPB gig pushed Comcast to say they intend to offer 2 gig speed. The EPB said, "Fine. We'll be offering 10 gig." Comcast has sued EPB more than once but has lost every time. Comcast prefers monopoly to competition.

If my cable had a limit on internet I would be screwed. I play online games, watch Netflix, Hulu and watch ESPN app.

I bought ROKU and it sucks, constant buffering. I have Comcast internet Blast. Bought Apple TV and it is fantastic.

If I could get the entire ESPN family of channels, Sling might be an alternative worth considering.

As far as internet service goes, AT&T is not an appealing choice unless you just absolutely hate Comcast/cable.

There just does not seem to be an easy fix for getting rid of cable and satellite tv service.

I ask for a deal last year and got Charter Spectrum for 39.99. It killed me to pay 59.99 a month ago, but can't complain too much it is 60 Mbps.

Thank you for the information gentlemen. I live in Hermitage and have only internet through Comcast. I have an antenna in the attic that picks up ABC, NBC CBS and FOX really well and in HD. I was concerned about what to do when the games are on ESPN or SEC network. Sounds like slingTV may be the way to go.

Only 1 GB of internet is nothing. I have Netflix (watch in HD which uses a lot more data) and have used 217 GB of data so far this month, with eleven days left in the month. I pay for 300 GB per month with Comcast.

Paying $70 per month for only 1 GB seems absurdly expensive.

I think the quick number of responses shows that people are getting fed up.
It's not just about what you can afford but what you find fair. I'm sick of constantly upping the package because the move shows xyz to xyz 2/international/south/3 etc..

Either way, options are getting better. To me, it's bad business to keep raising prices as competition grows.
But I should probably shut up, given I still pay a satellite bill.

Ummm that's the speed not the data limit

Thanks. I wonder how much data you get for $70 per month? Data charges are very important in any internet plan.

Mine has no cap ($47mo for 75/75 plan) and I doubt Google will either. Speeds are more important when you don't have to deal with a company like Comcast deciding what you need

Comcast is 'testing' (aka slowly implementing widespread) data limits all across the south with an average cap of around 350gb :/
