Option for cable cutters and football season...

Yeah pretty sure it's the speed. Google Fiber is the future. It just sucks because it's only in a few cities right now.

Yeah, mega and giga BITS per second are much different that megabytes and gigabytes, since there are 8 bits per byte. This would equate to 1 gigabit internet downloading about 125 megabytes of data per second... if where you're downloading from can even support that much throughput hahaha

Edit: MBps = megabytes per second vs Mbps = megabits per second (the general measurement used for speed)

Well I have no plans to move to kc anytime soon so I'll keep my fios. It's been strong for a decade

I've had Sling since spring break. It has its moments where it may buffer, but has continued to improve since we made the switch. Sound was an issue for a couple stations, but not ESPN. f you are worried about recording games, you can always view the replays on he Watch ESPN app (you get all access with Sling). I have had cable for the past 2 season and canceled after bowl season. Hope Sling works out.

I recently moved to Arkansas and have been looking for a way to watch the games. Thanks for posting this.

The Fire stick sucks constant buffering while my other devices are perfect when streaming

mine works fine. maybe it's a bad unit if your internet works, and other devices work as well. Still under warranty?

They likely do but unless you're downloading/torrents you'll never hit it.

That's what I thought, but when I lived at home during Christmas break we hit it. There were 4 kids in the house, with online gaming (PSN) and a decent amount of Netflix/streaming, along with normal internet surfing/usage

I had no idea we had a limit til we hit it and they contacted us. They gave us 2 "free" overage months and then they would start charging for extra data. Kind of disappointing seeing that we used a lot of data but none of it was illegal torrenting or anything of that nature

I get that but I've heard potential cities in the past. Hope it happens but it's a definite "believe it when I see it"

The list you heard is the list that Google was going to begin negotiations with. The list that Nashville is on is the list that has already went through negotiations. I think at this point it's as sure of a thing as it can be.

Can't beat $70 for 1gb/unlimited. I pay $110 in Memphis for 50mb/unlimited.

side load Kodi to xbox, fire stick, or computer...add Genesis, Popcorn Time, and Phoenix plus Sports Devil and you have absolutely everything to watch for free :)

Kodi is the bomb. I've got it on my phone, laptop, and 2 tablets. Now thats multiplexing.

People need to understand there are no ads or spyware with Kodi, and the streams are of reasonably
high quality to 720p. Just a great service.

My only issue is 7 tvs. I know the OTA antenna will work for them but then I'm stuck with multiple Roku setups or is there another way?

250 GB cap

Comcast admits its data caps are a business decision, not an engineering requirement | ExtremeTech

Average video stream 250 mb/hr. That's 1000 hours/mo of streaming with no other internet usage.

If your house is hitting 1000 hrs of streaming in a month then you might want to find a hobby. Beware of going outside though since the sun will likely burn your pale skin

Regardless, my provider offers better speeds and never had caps so I didn't realize people still signed up for providers who put them in place. I'd find an alternative

It's Comcast. I'd say lots of people have caps and don't even know it. That's why I posted it.

Have never hit a cap--used to be Comcast customer. Have better speed and no caps with current provider.

How long after a game ends is it available on replay to watch on ESPN? This is my first football season cutting the cord and I often get off work during the game.

A lot of places don't have an alternative when it comes to high speed internet. My old house in Johnson City was like that. It was Charter or nothing.

I did the cable cutter thing for years with Netflix, Prime, an antenna and the occasional torrent/buying by the episode on Amazon. It's worked great expert during football season. We have cable again now at our new house.

This is the first I have seen sling tv though. I may check it out if they ever get it working on chromecast.

That 1000 hours of streaming is way off. According to Netflix, each hour of 1080p streaming is approximately 3GB. With my current 300GB soft cap (Comcast is literally the only option in my apartment's area), that's 100 hours of streaming. This allows about three hours and twenty minutes of HD streaming per day. That sounds like a lot, but it's doable with free time to spare on a 40-hour work week.

That's not even considering the fact that many gamers download games digitally, with most games nowadays pushing 50-60gb per install.

I'm not cutting the cord on cable until after October or November because of new game releases and the amount of sports (NBA, NHL, NFL, NCAA FB, recaps, etc.) I will be watching.

All this will be negated when Google Fiber arrives or by upgrading to a faster connection with Comcast, which comes with an increased data limit.

I'd check my internet speed before thinking about cutting the cord..also invest in a good router. I have Charter Spectrum and get around 79Mbps on LAN and 55-60 on wireless..no issues with streaming to Chromecasts or fire sticks..we usually have a computer, a tablet, plus the TV streaming something..Charter doesn't have a max on gigs used

I went back to cable today after my internet bill went from 39.99 to 59.99. Got a add for 60 Mbps high speed internet and free DVR service all for 79.99. Extra $20 worth it to me for DVR and some channels I can't stream. In extra rooms I will use my slingbox to stream my DVR box on my roku and Apple TV.
