Orange Out Friday

You guys can't fill your arena for Memphis?

What are you gonna do when the conference play starts up.

It's really not that hard to figure out. With students in town, that'd be 2,000 more people there, which equals a sell out. I really overestimate the critical thinking abilities of those from Memphis.

Oh, and judging by the #7 attendance figure in the nation last year, I believe UT fans do just well in conference play. And that's coming off mediocre at best OOC play.

My point

Your head.

What is it you're trying to say?

You make a comment about the game not being sold out. I respond, we've finished ahead of you in attendance for 7 years now in a row, and that our arena holds 4k more than yours. So even if the game isn't a sell out, well still finish higher attendance for an 8th straight year.

You've yet to produce an educate response.

Not if you don't sell more tickets, my friend.

Math must not be your strong suit....I'll help ya out pal.

Thompson-Boling Arena capacity=21,678

Fed Ex Forum capacity= 18,119

UT has 2,000 tickets remaining. So, if you take capacity of TBA and subtract 2,000 remaining tickets you get...19,678. Therefore, even if UT doesn't sell another single ticket before the game, the attendance Friday will still be more than your rented arena can hold.

19,678>18,119

Why all the apathy then?

I've been going to see the Vols since Ernie and Bernie, but unlike Stokely, TBA looks like a funeral wake more than a basketball game...Watch Duke, or many other locals, and the sidelines are rocking and shouting and stomping......TBA looks like a church service headed by Charles Stanley....Can we not get the senior citizens away from the sidelines, and put some students and some noise makers there instead, giving us a home environment, instead of a dead one...??

Why not just say oops I was wrong and move on MC?

You told Arencibia not unless we sell more tix and that was incorrect. Regardless of if we sell one more ticket or not, the attendance is still gonna be higher than what fed ex can even hold.

the size of thompson boling makes that nearly impossible. It's more of an nba type arena.

I brought this up last year. Thought moving the students to one of the sidelines instead of behind the basket would be a good idea. Apparently a lot of people helped fund TBA and those blue hairs are promised those sideline seats.

This. People actually get mad at me when I stand up there.

Have you ever actually been to Cameron Indoor? It's more comfortable to actually stand than sit. Thompson-Boling has padded seats so it makes it much easier and comfortable for people to stay seated. It gets rockin' when it needs to. Pop in the UT-Texas game when Lofton launched his bomb over Durant or the UT-Kansas game a few years ago or just about any UT-Ky or UT-Fla game.

The other 95% of the games it isn't rockin at all.

FedEx Forum is an NBA arena, and it is smaller than TBA. I would bet that most NBA arenas are smaller and 20k or less. TBA was built to compete with UK and we just don't have enough fans to fill an arena that once was 24k. Most schools don't. Lexington has 120k more people than Knoxville, and UK's basketball tradition is like ours in football. We still average 19,700 a year which is outstanding. When I saw the schedule I wondered why the Memphis game was during winter break because the students need to be there for this game. The crowd would be different if students were on campus.

95%? That's a tad much. I'd put it at 50-50.

The non-conference games against cupcakes and when the students are out it doesn't help. The Houston, O'Neill and Buzz years were lean, but Pearl had the place rockin'. It rocked last year in a number of games.
