I am surprised to see '98 Tennessee that far down. But, I am well aware of the relative cakewalk Oregon had for an undefeated BCS school. Non-conference opponents were 6-6 Tennessee, FCS-member Portland State, and New Mexico. I think Portland State went 2-9 in the Big Sky. And New Mexico is near the bottom of the FBS. And, the Pac Ten was very watered down this year, besides Oregon and Stanford.

Great reason for a playoff. I can think of other conference champions who lost games who had tougher roads than Oregon. Oklahoma lost two games but played in a much more competitive league than Oregon. It's stupid that a great conference can essentially eliminate itself from national title consideration.

They have earned the right to be there. Of course, I would be a hypocrite to say otherwise since I said the same about lowly Boise State and TCU.

what a dumb way to draw a conclusion. Opponents total record? It sounds like that would have a lot do with your conference;s nonconference schedule.

Oh well - yeah it is a pretty weak determination - but we beat the #1 team on that list for our NC - so doesn't really matter.

Well then we beat the toughest team on there apparently. This poll is stupid. FSU lost to a terrible NCSU that year as well

Pac-10's round-robin scheduling guarantees more losses for the conference teams than other conferences like SEC or Big-Ten or Big-12. Ted Miller @ESPN did the math on that one, too lazy to find the link tho.

It guarantees 5 losses, but it also guarantees 5 wins. And, that doesn't change how bad Oregon's non-conference schedule is. Of course, it's not your fault we ended up doing little to boost your schedule.

I think I read that ESPN article. He didn't bother to point out that a Pac Ten team, Arizona State, is 6-6, but has no bowl, because they scheduled two teams from FCS. The Pac Ten had a few decent out-of-conference wins that come to mind, like Arizona over Iowa and Stanford at Notre Dame, but if that's the same article I read, Miller was way off calling the Pac Ten the best conference this year.

That's not even close. That's absolutely ridiculous. At best, I would rank the Pac Ten fourth. It didn't have anywhere near the quality depth of the Big 12, SEC, and Big 10.

Droski, buddy, we know you hate Oregon. I know, I'd be feeling vindictive if my pre-season predictions were so far off too. Are you suggesting that TCU should be there or something?

not saying they didn't deserve to go the nc game. they did. i do think this indicates that perhaps this appearance is of the fluke variety rather than the first of a string of future appearances and pac-10 domination as duck fans delusionaly believe. i very much doubt this oregon team woudl have run the table in the pac-10 from say 2003-2008 for instance.

The 2003 LSU team had the easiest path I can remember and the Texas 2005 team also had a very easy non-conference schedule. LSU's teams have had incredibly easy non-conference schedules until the past 2-3 years, because they were getting so much flack about playing too many cupcakes. Same thing with UGA, but both schools have upgraded their schedules, only due to the fact that they have had more success.

I'm not suggesting that we're going to the be USC of this decade, but I think we'll continue to have pretty successful years considering the recruits that we are beginning to pull and the quality of the coaching staff. I know, Kelly could leave at some point. For as long as he is there, though, one of the best coaches in the country is leading the program. I feel pretty good about that.

your recruiting isn't even in the top-10 this year which is pretty unbelievable considering the ridiculous amount of press you have gotten. i can't see how you make that leap unless that starts improving.

if you haven't noticed the pac-10 was particurally awful this and last year you just haven't been paying attention. i realize you guys have a bit of a groupthink problem there in the middle of nowhere, but try to be somewhat unbaised occasionally.

Um, we've got a ways to go until National Signing Day. We're at #16 now with quite a few big names (including the Serra guys) still yet to commit. We shall see.
