Oregon fires coach Mark Helfrich

I'd take him over Butch

So you would take a coach who went to a national title game with someone else's players, then fell off significantly the next year, then finished with a 4-8 record (without any sugnificant injuries, they just suck) the next year and who has shown zero ability to recruit over a head coach who has improved his team's record every year with 4-straight top 20 classes?

I'm pissed about going 8-4 too, but it's absolute lunacy to suggest that Helfrich is a better option under any circumstances.

Justin Wilcox makes so much sense for them IYAM. Defensive guy, young, has that laid back profile they like. The question is recruiting however. They are slipping and need to get better athleticially.

They might be hesitant to go the coordinator route again.

Yet we stomped his ass. Even last year we should have won based on our play of the entire game and not based on anything else. I hope that he stays.

He's been to Atlanta twice in 2 years. Butch zero in 4. That tells me all I need to know.

True. Fleck makes sense there and he would jump start their recruiting. But they haven't hired someone that didn't have ties to the school/area since like the 60's.

I hope not, I want Fleck to be available next season as our fall back option after we strike out with the big dogs. Great coach, great recruiter.
