Orson Charles (announcing at 4:30 pm EST)

If you're not 100%, then why say 'USC Lock' or '100% Bama'. Why not, 'I think he's going USC.' Poor choice of words is all. If Charles goes USC, rex looks like a genius. If he goes elsewhere, he looks like a jackass.

If anyone who makes a recruiting prediction is a , then we have quite a few on this board. He's making his prediction and no more than that. I hope he's wrong this time.

I do think it's hard for someone to be a lock before their visit though. He hasn't visited USC yet, has he?

Not to rip you rex but, you also said Janzen was 100% LSU and Myles was headed to Bama.

I was 100% wrong on JJ and I hope I am 100% wrong on Charles. I just dont see it with OC, the kid seems to crave the spotlight and where is it bigger than USC?

rivals radio (Jamie N.) said he thougt Tenn. was the team to beat

please dont ever use Newberg to bolster a prediction, you guys think Im wrong all the time. (I am, but I cant hold a candle to JN)

most recruiting "predictions" are nothing more than baseless unfounded guesses...get used to that.

however, I don't understand why people on this board throw around the word "lock"

a lock typically confers some type of insider info...saying someone is a lock to a school based on a complete (and uneducated) guess eats away at your credibility...

have you ever heard the guys on the betting commercials give you their "stone cold, lead pipe locks"? Some of you guys get upset over the most inane things

indeed...of course, it's more understandable as they are trying to earn money from their predictions...advertising hyperbole.

Not trying to pile on you Rex. I'm just wondering why you think he's all about the limelight. Quotes like this make me want to respectfully disagree so I'm just asking.

"A lot of people say that I am doing this for attention," Charles said. "But that is not the case at all. I just could not schedule-wise get my visits in. I took a visit every weekend in January. I couldn't take one in December. We won the state title in December and then I was in the Army All-American game. I transferred to Plant High School this year and I was trying to get to know my new teammates and we had a goal of winning the state. The last thing as a new guy that I wanted to be was a distraction to the goal of winning it all."

He seems like a team first kind of guy to me form what I've seen.

It would probably help the "conversation" if people qualified their "prognostications" with "I think", "rumor is", or some other statement that indicates something other than an ironclad certainty.

If the kid themselves say, "I'm not going there period and then the actions match the words..." then it is time to make more absolute statements.

please dont every worry about disagreeing with me. Im wrong far more than Im right (just ask my wife, co-workers, etc).

Honestly, I think any kid that drags out the recruiting process beyond NSD has some element of loving the limelight. He may be a great kid in all aspects. I have read almost every interview he has given through this process and I have formed the opinion that he relishes the attention. That's not neccessarily a bad thing since it helps if you are going to perform in front of 100,000+.

I never realized that I needed to qualify my comments on an internet message board with "imo". I thought that was implied.

FWIW,

This has been the most exciting recruiting season at UT since 1998. Hope it is a sign of the future. Still having three players in the running is unbelievable at this point. Kiffin and company have energized the program. I no longer put a whole lot of emphasis on board talk and recruiting services. I do believe Rex has more of the inside scoop than most give him credit, but like he admits he has be wrong.

Realistically it no longer matters where any of the big three go at this point. We have served notice of things to come and reestablished the fact we can recruit again at the upper tier level.
