Orson Charles (announcing at 4:30 pm EST)

At least the Bball game and landing Oku will make up for this loss in terms of my mood!

oh and the 80 degree weather this weekend won't hurt either!

TAMPA - Gator Nation, the mystery is solved. It was Plant High tight end Orson Charles who broke your 2006 BCS National Championship trophy Friday in Gainesville.

It was, of course, an accident. And Charles said he is genuinely sorry for knocking the handcrafted Waterford crystal off a coffee table and onto the ground, where, just outside of Coach Urban Meyer's office, it shattered.

While in Gainesville competing in a Nike training camp, Charles said he and another prep player were touring the football stadium. That's where the BCS trophy, along with Gators quarterback Tim Tebow's Heisman Trophy, were on display. While leaning over to take a photo of the Heisman, the 6-foot-3, 225-pound Charles said he bumped into the BCS trophy - he thinks with his backside - and knocked it to the ground.

"If you were outside the stadium, it was so loud, I think you would've heard it shatter," Charles said. "Nobody said anything for 10 minutes, then Florida assistant Coach John Hevesy said, 'What do I do? Who do I call? Did you know that was $35,000!'

"I just stood there with this baby look and said, 'Sorry.' Then he joked and said, 'You've got to commit to Florida now.'"

Charles, who will be a senior at Plant next season, has 16 Division I offers. He ranks Miami first on his list, but shortly after breaking the crystal he said Meyer joked about the mishap by asking, "How does it feel to be a Gator?" Charles said Meyer assured him insurance will replace the trophy.

Before Charles broke the trophy, Plant coach Robert Weiner said Meyer asked him to describe Charles. Weiner told Meyer that Charles was a "physical specimen" but sometimes a "bull in a china shop."

"After what happened," Weiner said, "I'm sure Urban now thinks I'm an excellent evaluator of talent."

Sounds like a very agile player. LOL

"It was very, very hard. You do not want to tell a university that their school is out. It is too hard," Charles explained. "You build up a relationship with these coaches and they have been there for you. Like Georgia for instance, Georgia has been on me since this day last year and if I had to tell them no it would be very hard. If I had to tell USC no or Tennessee no it will be hard but in the end, I have to go to one school so it has to happen.".....I know it prob means nothing, but I like to think its a good sign that he mentions Tennessee last. I can wish righ?:)

If the Oku's choice is any indication these kids may just be winding up at the school that originally had them and they have just been out and about to see the country. If so, Charles goes to UGA and Brown goes to UM. If so, to misquote Meatloaf, 1 out of 3 ain't bad.

Guys...I'm a friend of the family...I'm not supposed to leak this but...Charles is all Vol...mark it down...

Dude it's a joke...seriously...

There was a newbie named chattanoogatnvol that came on here right before Geathers annonuced saying he was a family friend and Geathers was all Vol....even after Geathers put on the UGA hat...

It was fun messing with him though :)

This is really the first day I looked at this particular thread...I don't look much in the recruiting forums....

Just don't think the karma is going to hold with Charles, he's a dawg, IMO.
i will be unbelievably shocked if OC dons the orange and white. i don't think any other teams ever really stood a shot, but he took all his visits to make sure. that being said, i do think tn and USC made a big impression on him, it was just too late.

UT made a better impression than most think. He might of even been favoring us about a week ago, but in the end being comfortable matters more in the recruiting world than anything.

I hope he comes here, but I doubt it. I haven't heard him say anything good about UT in a while, maybe I am wrong, but I just think that he is headed for UGA. That sux cause they will have the biggest most physical recievers in the nation, just not sure if they will have anyone to throw the ball to them.

i agree with you there, but i think because of the comfort thing, in the end, uga was just too much to overcome. however, i feel like we deserve a karma signing because of marlon brown and the dastardly last minute scholly offer to geathers. i hate uga even more bc of those two. :banghead2:
