OSU fight & loss helps US

I was at the game. One thing, OSU sucks and Day canā€™t coach. Two, Michigan player tried to plant a flag in middle of the field and thatā€™s just asking for a fight and I donā€™t blame OSU players.
Nah. Its a different era. I recall when Albert Haynesworth wrapped himself in a UT flag and ran around the field after we beat South Carolina, his home state, in Columbia. Their fans were upset (and yes it was classless) but like Booger McFarland said at the Texas halftime "if you don't want them to do that, don't lose". I've seen bama players wave the bama flag after beating us in Neyland. I hated it, but...win the game! Then it won't happen.

I think unfortunately people forget that this is supposed to be all in fun. I know that's a ridiculous thing to write on a sports message board, but it is actually true. :)

OSU is not going to suspend any of their players. Now the NCAA might.

I would be curious about this one in terms of what might be done.

If you remember the off-season discussion re:Michigan eventually being stripped of their title-the NCAA stated that the CFP had their own rules. Basically that the NCAA could not strip Michigan of the CFP title.

I wonder if there is something similar for players?

Ohio State and Michigan hate each other and neither school will do anything about a fight. The B1G will do nothing and likely tell the NCAA to back off. The CFP Committee isn't looking to penalize anyone for anything. It's a nothingburger.

As for pepper spray, it WAS USED but it's a little dramatic to say "had to be used." These guys just spent 60 minutes beating on each other and an entire season hitting people almost daily. Without the pepper spray I feel certain things would've calmed with little more than a few more bruises on guys who couldn't tell you which bruise came from where most likely.

The pepper spray was old men pissed off that they couldn't be in control. The young guys didn't need control at that moment. It's not like they were going to start swinging at anyone other than each other.

No browneye apologist but I dont blame them for not allowing Michigan to plant their flag in the center of the field. If Alabama tried to do that at Neyland I would hope our players would not allow it either.
There is zero, zero reason for that. You prevent it by kicking their ass on the field. Instead OSU got ***** embarrassed and the result is violence. I am positive not One OSU kid got pepper sprayed and they caused the Melee

Your are correct OSU should have taken care of business on the field. But under no circumstance is it ok for an opposing rival to plant their flag in the middle of your field. I have no problem with the players not allowing it. Maybe Michigan should have shown a little bit of class by not doing what they did. There is zero, zero reason for that. Iā€™d be willing to bet thereā€™s not a team in the NCAA that would allow it.

I have seen Tennessee do it at Vandy quite a few times. Seen other teams do it elsewhere. You are making excuses. It is a flag. Not like someone dropped their pants and pissed in the middle of the field.

Feel like Michigan has the right stick their flag anywhere they want on that field . Call it classless want. They outplayed the buckeyes and they own them

Michigan always has these issues and it starts at the top. Moore screaming we own you at fans. The players planted a flag in 2022 and tried again in 2024. Mullins saying they need to learn how to lose...don't remember OSU having this issue against Oregon. It's a Michigan problem when it keeps happening. Happened against Penn State a few years back, twice against MSU and now against OSU. Heck yesterday Florida planted a flag yesterday and Napier said it wouldn't happen again and was embarrassing. Meanwhile Michigan hung the flag it used to plant in 2022 in Schembechler Hall. It starts at the top. Living in Michigan Ill tell you Michigan fans are the worst kind.

In the end, no way we jump Ohio State. Warde loves him the big ten and will do everything to get his teams home field advantage. I wouldn't be shocked to see Oregon get a bye and then OSU and OSU get home games.

OSU threw the punches correct ? They initiated by turning to violence. You can say the flag thing caused it. ... what caused it was getting your ass beat for 60 minutes by an inferior team and embarrassment. This was Home Field, not a road game at night in a hostile place. Ohio State thought they were gonna whip Michigan and they got laughed at. It is an excuse.

Was there a Zoom meeting last week among all the football players, where they decided that you must plant a flag if you beat your rival on the road?

I'm expecting conferences now to put in regulations banning those big hand held flags from use by the schools. Although none of their field storming measures are working, so that probably won't work either.

T hey wonā€™t do nothing bout itā€¦ you got 60 minutes at least to prevent thatā€¦. Osu just got beat. Michigans defense won that game. They just wanted it more

Agree, you don't do that to the home team. Beat them, fine, rub dirt on their face and spit in their eye, you just don't do that.

I would love to play OSU in the 1st round at home right about now. Thereā€™s no telling how many players will be suspended for there next game.
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If we don't play them at full strength and beat them, it doesn't mean anything. Not a fan of cheese wins, I want beefeater wins.

OSU even if you discount their wins vs Penn State (and Indiana), their only other loss was by 1 point to the #1 team at Oregon. I think they will be ranked just above us.

PS. Both teams were classless post game.
If you suspend OSU players for the CFP, what punishment do you give to the Michigan players? If there is punishment, it will be on the coaches for not controlling their players and they may be suspended a game next year.

Iā€™m not pressed by the flag planting or the reaction to it. If Meechigan didnā€™t want the smoke, donā€™t plant the flag. If OSU didnā€™t want them planting the flag, win the game. Itā€™s a bitter, hateful rivalry. These young men were lathered up like racehorses and either high on the thrill of victory or facing an abject, crushing defeat. I canā€™t heap too much blame on Buckeye defenders like Sawyer in particular: they gave up 235 yards and 13 points.

Like someone else said, if Bama players tried to plant their flag on the T and Arion Carter or Will Brooks ripped the flag out of their hands, Iā€™d support them, although Iā€™m sure many on this board who have never competed at a high level at anything or been in any kind of high-pressure situation in their lives would fall all over themselves to throw our players under the bus.

What would help us more:

1. Stop being an undisciplined team that commits a ridiculous amount of boneheaded penalties.

2. Stop sleepwalking at the start of games and getting off to glacial starts.

This team has better talent and grit that most of ours in recent history, but they sure make it difficult on themselves. Giving a 14-point ā€œspotā€ to a good opponent is not a recipe for championship contention.

We were lucky that wasnā€™t a true road game this weekend. Our team has proven that they donā€™t play well in hostile road environments (a difficult feat under any circumstances). Had that been in front of a really loud opposing crowd, I donā€™t know how/if the VOLS recover from the garbage start they put out there.

Wait for the polls to come out. Ohio State is going to take a huge drop because of this.
The common comment is play like this 60 minutes in the game.
No intensity and after that rumble why would you reward them with a homefield playoff game.
Several Suspensions will come out of this as well.

I am actually quite impressed Billy Napier apologized for his players planting the flag on FSU's 50. It is disrespectful and provocative.

I also recall FSU was notorious for planting their flag or the Seminole's spear on opponents' logo at the 50.
