OSU QB now a Millionaire

Fed, state, FICA (both ee & er portion) taxes, agent fees, etc will eat away at alot of that $466,666 per year
People always say this. So YOU would turn down that contract because of taxes? I wouldn't. It's good money...... call it what it is. It's GREAT money for a kid under 20 regardless of the tax hit.

Nothing old people love to do more than **** on younger people for making money. It’s hilarious

CJ Stroud is a RS freshman. If he starts for two years and assuming he’s like the last two OSU QB’s and balls out he will be gone after 2022. Ewers (who let’s not forget was scheduled to be on campus starting in 2022 anyways) was probably expecting this since he didn’t get in campus till a month ago. I’m sure has had conversations with Ryan Day about playing time. Ewers can easily be starting at Ohio State by 2023 as a RS Sophomore and will easily have six figures+ in his bank account.

I’m sure he’s fine with the decision he made.

I don't understand the "that kid might blow the money, so he shouldn't be allowed to have it" position. It's always been nuts to me.

Not saying that is the point that the original commenter was making, but seen a LOT of that on this site lately.

I'm old and I find it crazy to rag on someone else's good fortune. I'm tickled if someone finds a legal way to make it big or gets lucky and that quarter section in Texas your great Aunt Hattie Louise left you turns out to sit on dead dinosaurs.

Not really an autograph guy. Can someone please explain to me how this kid’s signature is worth $1.4 million? Not taking away from him at all, good for him make that $$$ if there’s a market for it, it just blows my mind that’s all. That’s a helluva lot of money based on a kid from Texas that should be a high school senior.

It’s definitely an investment more than anything. But everything I’ve read is Ewers is apparently a bona fide stud* and projects as a future #1 pick even.

*for a high school senior of course

Of course not, but its not life changing either. That money gets gone real fast. I've know too many young men sign baseball deals for several hundred thousand and they're broke in 3 years...

Perhaps you're jealous they had it to begin with?

I've known guys my age to retire, have a little bank saved up, then get this idea or lousy advice to get a piece of a "can't miss" franchise.

Next thing they know they're "downsizing" from the house to an apt and the wife is clipping every coupon she can again but she's in her 70s. It ain't just young people who get stupid with money.

I’m not jealous about their money. I just concerned that too much too fast can ruin a lot of promising careers. I hope the young man and those others to follow have sound, HONEST, advice & take it.

I think there are multiple threads on this.
On one of the others, I made the point that assuming Stroud is as advertised, he will be starting through 2022. By the time it even become Ewers "turn" he will only be there a year assuming he is a three and done. Day very well may recruit over him. Actually, I would wager there is a 99.9 percent chance Day will recruit another 5* can't miss in the next two years.

I am old-and I have no gripe with what Ewers has done. As long as he accepts that he has made a big boy decision and what happens is what is gonna happen. I just don't wanna see him on an ESPN 30 for 30 in ten years whining about how he was taken advantage of if everything goes south for him

Not sure why anyone cares.

If GT Sports Marketing wants to throw money at a 2nd or 3rd string freshman QB, for three years, whose business is it of ours? The school isn't paying him, he's not doing anything illegal, even if he does want to go and waste it on hookers and blow, that's on him since he's 18 and legally an adult in the United States.

In truth, kid has a ton of Instagram or something followers. I dunno how long they stick after he's QB3 for a year but maybe he'll start "dating" some Instagram babe...... and they'll be..... I dunno, they'll get clicks okay...... and be cool, chill, fly, whatever the word is now that gets clicks....... did I mention my clicks......

What’s wrong with people voicing their opinions on how ridiculous it is? Oh, I forgot. Can’t do that these days right?

They're just saying the number is smaller than it appears. I'd also like to point out that Tennessee is sitting pretty with this NIL deal. Most people don't realize it yet. Very few states don't have state tax, which mean more money for the kids. The recruiting advantage UT has with this is completely unfair to schools like USC, Oregon, Wisconsin or states with insanely high state tax, ahem California. In other words, that 1.4 million dollar contract is worth more if that kid played at Tennessee.
