Our Big Back

Is Fant. He got the TD and 2 point conversion last week. Then more of the same this week.

The team is winning with team first upperclassmen. Fant started as a WR, then became a RB, and now a TE. He is adding yet another dimension to the offense.
Only thing this offense was lacking was a big back. Just gives defenses more to worry about.

He looked pretty fast when he bounced it outside

Honestly the Fant Rant is so annoying… we all agree he sucks right ? Him and warren have been two of the hardest people to watch the last few seasons

Once Tillman returns, we could actually field a 4 WR offense with Fant as H back. Let him pass block or be the check down, depending on the defense.

The options are limitless.

Fant is a fullback-Tight end. Good for blocking and short yardage and the occasional sweep. It is a good weapon to have. I love him incorporating a full back in our system at times and using it effectively. But he is not a running back. It’s only a matter a time before we land a top flight back with speed power and vision. But our backs run hard and can move the chains, Heupel wants to be able to do it all. GBO!!!!

That goal line play they have been running where #5 takes the run option then pitches it back inside to Fant is brilliant.
We set that up games in advance. Hooker would go down the line with option to pitch to RB. Then LSU and Alabama overplay it, opening Fant up the middle on shovel pass. This is what Chiefs do with Kelce. We are the only team in the country who have scored on every red zone possession. And we have scored a TD on every goal to go situation. That’s how you average 50 points a game. Great plays executed flawlessly.

Compare that with the JG years.

Just trying to allude to the fact that we are using him effectively in short yardage situations. Hurd was “bigger” than him but the play calling sucked. We don’t have bruisers but we batting 1000 in goal to goal situations.

I rewatched the AL game with a buddy. When P. Fant drew that blatant PI penalty to keep our game tying drive alive late in the 4th, I joked to my buddy - "Jokes really on bama now, Fant wasn't gonna catch it anyways".

Fant had a fumble against Florida that cost us a minimum of 3 points. He's due for a very untimely drop seemingly every other game. In spite of his shortcomings, Fant has managed to improve enough that his positive attributes greatly outnumber his shortcomings, and become a key contributor to this team.

3 coaching staffs (Lyle, Pruitt, Heupel) kept promising us Fant was gonna break out. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't started to doubt. I should have know 3rd times a charm.
