Except when you take into account Brown had just finished a ten win season at UNC when he moved on to Texas. How many of those did Dooley run up at La. Tech?
But hiring the possible exception to the rule is crazy.

A while, but no major program was going to give him a job before he proved that he could be successful in a conference that was terrible. People would feel better about Dooley if he had actually gotten to the successful part. How long did it take him to reach that point? His first few years weren't very successful.

Gary Crowton went 21-13 at La. Tech. I'd take my chances that Lane Kiffin could at least match that.
Yeah, because being forced to play the Idahos, New Mexico States, Utah States, and San Jose States is a real death march. And what was the difference between Crowton's La Tech regime and Dooley's? They were independent and could schedule whoever they wanted. He did have one impressive win over Alabama. Other than that....color me unimpressed.
Completely different. UNC is an awful football program that considers Duke their big rival. Big difference between UT and UNC making the hire.Looking up Mack Browns record at Tulane, he was 14-31.
He started out 1-10 for two years at UNC while Dick Crum was 5-6 the year before.
You are correct, he did turn UNC around, but buy you logic, he should have never even been hired at UNC buy his record at Tulane.

Dooley had an 8 and 5 season his second year there and then had all kinds of problems his third year. He was at least trending in the right direction. Crowton went 6-5 and 6-6 two out of his first 3 years.
