Our coaches hit the road today evaluating prospects....

Hat's the real deal and he brings something to the table. Hat knows I respect him and he treats me with respect. It's mostly the dolts on this site that meet his ire.

Oh, I understand that he brings something to the table. It just seems like condescension towards anyone who disagrees, which sadly not uncommon among smart folks. But I haven't been reading here for terribly long, so small sample size and all that.

It's not uncommon among narcissists. There are plenty of very intelligent posters around here that practice courtesy and respect others' opinions. Of course we have a handful of the former as well.

Says the guy telling us about his film study and calling everyone an idit who doesn't buy Gore's story. GTFO.

You're condescending as hell, but just have a smaller universe of people available to use it on. It's a genetic thing.

Speaking of courtesy. Could we please get back on topic and stop talking about others as if they can't read the backbiting BS?

A losing record is a losing record wherever you have it.
Wade Houston and Gerry DiNardo are going to be thrilled to learn their failures at Tennessee and LSU are no different than John Calipari and Steve Spurrier's struggles with New Jersey and Washington.

Better show some respek.

Hey, Kiffin was awesome. He's still awesome. He was going to win big here. He's going to win big at USC.

Not denying that he's a good coach or that he was going to win, just saying that your handle doesn't give me the feeling that you're objective about Dooley. Maybe this is a mistaken assumption.

Not what I meant exactly, but your point is made.

Pure objectivity about Dooley would render enormous skepticism at this point. Not saying he won't be the man, but his history thus far says it's unlikely.

Exactly. Being objective does not require taking a wait and see attitude.

What history is that? Taking a chance on a really crappy football team to get some head coaching experience? Saban thought enought about him to take him from LSU to Miami and wanted him to go to Alabama.

Saban is notorious for firing incompetent people. If Nick Saban thought he was great enough to be on his staff and carried Dooley with him from job to job, then I will give him the chance.

Bashing a guy who takes a coaching chance at crappy school doesn't make sense.

I don't know about enormous, but certainly a healthy dose. I think a lot of his failures had mitigating factors that are being ignored by the bashers, but he also doesn't have a track record of success. The way I see it, there are only two things that suggest success. First, he has reputation as a very good coach held by everyone he's worked with (and their fans). That's not tangible, but it's not nothing either. Second, he's put together a very good staff. It isn't last year's staff, but it's still good enough to give me a few warm fuzzies.

Obviously, neither of those positive indicators are tangible enough to make this a safe bet. I just hope it turns out to be a good bet, unsafe though it was.

Nothing wrong with a healthy dose of skepticism. Not allowing for the slight or otherwise chance that you could be wrong is not skepticism.

I was not sold on Lane Kiffin at any point prior to his departure and I promise you I will not be sold on Dooley until I see what he does in recruiting this year and in his second season of coaching. I am hopeful, optimistic? Maybe. But I haven't made my mind up one way or the other yet.

How is that bashing? The guy's track record as a CFB HC is rough, to put it kindly.

Nick Saban having one as an assistant isn't as telling as that crazy empirical evidence. World is littered with competent assistants who couldn't head the grocery squad.

I think the staff he has put together is better than last years.

With the exception of Monty of course.

I haven't said otherwise. Objectively, it's hard to fall down on the rah rah side.

LSU fans employed that same silly logic when they bought into Gerry DiNardo. Look what a rousing success that turned out to be. Dooley took over La. Tech's program and did less with it than the guy who nearly destroyed BYU's program. Can't imagine why some of us aren't just giddy with this hire.

If Saban's going to be the barometer for who we should hire, why didn't we just promote Lance Thompson?

People wanted Muschamp but he left Saban's staff and is still a coordinator. Dooley took a chance at a crappy job that would be hard to turn around.
