Outside of Bama and UGA this may be our toughest game left

I know this sounds crazy with a line of 13.5 - 14 points, but, as of now, this Arkansas game is the one we are most likely to lose (according to projections and betting lines) of all of the games we have left.

Right now we are definitely double digit favorites in every other game. This speaks to not only the dominance of our beloved Vols but also the weakness of our remaining schedule. You could argue that Kentucky is better than we initially thought but we'd still be a big favorite at home. And outside of Georgia, our only road game left after this one is Vandy.

Having lived through nearly two decades of mediocrity, I'm trying to take some time to enjoy being a top-level team again.

This is an LOS type game.

Kentucky is substantially better than Arkansas. We blow the doors off Arkansas, but Florida scares me to death. Because.....the last 20 years. We have had the better team half the time and they still beat us. It's so infuriating.

Is anyone scared of Florida just based on our past with them? Even in 2022 that game was kinda close. Almost let them come back.

I still don't think we know enough about teams at this point in the year to conclude that. I think Bama and Georgia will be tougher based on history but with everybody else it's hard to say. I am of the camp to always worry about Florida also until the game is over because they have peed in our cornflakes time and again.

See my post above. We're our Kentucky to them, no matter how much better we are, they seem to beat us. I don't get it.

I think he has matured as a head coach and going forward will coach based on what it takes to beat teams. Showed that against NC State and then Oklahoma. At least I hope that is the case. He won't continue to dominate on offense in the SEC with a fire away offense.. There are times when you win with defense or need to protect QB.

My worry tomorrow is, can they protect Nico? If they can't the game could end up being closer than we want it.
This is what the media types all seem to have assumed as well: that Josh "matured" in the OK game.

I think that's presumptuous. They're assuming that he just became aware of something they already knew. I think the opposite is more likely: that Josh, a very experienced football coach, knew how to lean on a defensive game plan all along, but just chose not to until he needed it. And he needed it in Norman.

His nature is to go lights-out on offense. His team is built for that. His scheme is designed for that. I think that's what he's gonna do, 90% of the time. Likely including today.

Go Vols!

Look at the years where we've supposedly been soo much better than them. How many times were we actually that much better than them and still lost? The answer may surprise you.

It appears that nonsensical whipped football fan affliction (that I won't call by the name you kids call it), may still be afflicting you. Tennessee has not really been a good football program in the last 18 years or so. Not sure how y'all expected so much winning when the team was not good. GoVols 🍊

I’m still not convinced the VOLS have a strong long ball game. Show us!
We need to take what they give us and send different receivers long all game to wear them out. Then we blow buy them and score in the 4th quarter. Hopefully we are already up big by then as well.

there is no doubt his nature is down the field and light it up. There will be games that will happen. Especially versus teams that can't compete with the WRs. Not sure that is the case with many SEC level teams though. That's where you will see him adapt.

Tonight's offense will be dictated on Nico protections. The OL has to protect or Heupel will IMO.

I think you’re right. This game more because it’s away. Kentucky and Florida could give us a decent game but we play them at home and I think we have the edge there. Vandy could pack a few surprises but we should beat them easily.

We just need to stay injury free and keep getting better.

Are there drugs that can be prescribed to our fan base? Collectively we have a chemical imbalance. Some may be more off than others. But yall have got to stop being scared of every game, every week. The team will play well, and they may win or lose, but enjoy the ride. Yall are refusing to enjoy this by worrying about every game.

This x 1000.

Should be a pinned post.

The only way we lose this game or Bama or UK IMO is to lose the turnover ratio 3 to 1 and remember the JG picks vs UK & 2 were pik 6s I don't expect that any team recovers from that kind of $itsho.
If we are even on TO or just -1 with no TOs for TDs, I think we win out, sans UGA at their place.

As much as I want that to be the case, I am not sure that is true. Turnovers can be game changers, but superior talent can over come turn overs. While our talent level is increasing every year, we still have areas where we need to improve and gain experience. This is true for for some positions on both offense and defense. I do believe we will improve each year in the talent race, but are we are not there yet. We have to win with effort and attitude.

Florida is I believe the worst team in SEC vs the run, what we do well with IMO the best back in the SEC

IMO we are there. Got talent, loads of experience 5th 6th & 7th year players that is immeasurable and one of the best running games if not the best in the SEC and a young QB with a ceiling that is off the charts and a coaching staff that can do more with less than most in the SEC, 2022 proved that, top to bottom this team is way deeper than 2022 JMO no BVS here.

Seriously, it’s every week.

Makes our fanbase look weak minded.

Sam has been poor-mouthing his team. I’m sure he’s telling boys that nobody believes in them, that here’s a chance to chance to show everyone how god they are—blah, blah. Crowd could make a difference, but I think the Vols come out of the open date ready to play and we cove the spread easily. I think Kentucky is our biggest challenge other than the Dogs and the Tide.

I still believe we are getting very close to being in the same league as Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State. We still need depth and EXPERIENCE at every position to win the SEC and a National Championship. I would be delighted to be proven wrong, but we to continue to improve our offense and avoid injuries.
