Same thing I said in the thread in Around the NCAA. I won't say racism was the reason behind Auburn hiring Chizik, but I sure as hell can't think of any other single reason as to why they wouldn't have picked up Gill.
the singular reason would be Gill saying no, thank you.

Word I'm hearing is that Auburn trustees who control everything - basically wanted a puppet coach.

Who really cares? Hire the most qualified regardless of his skin color....saying that, I think AU screwed up

Not if he has a brain. I would think that Auburn was better than buffalo if for nothing else to get away from the snow.
it's freaking Auburn, where one booster runs the show and he would be facing the most formidable recruiting task in all of college football.

Not if you have a huge donor calling the shots. I hear that more than one of their candidates didn't want the job because of this one particular donor.

You won't see the results of Auburn's hire until Tubby's thumb print is gone.

:eek:k: My post was more a sideways shot at buffalo and the weather than a proponent of going to auburn. In other words it was meant to be tongue in cheek. :good!:
In other words a babbling puppet master booster to me sounds better than frost bite.

He's not a Wiseguy so that's good. I thought you might be hanging around a rough crowd.

Were they those sources unnamed? Also maybe that's why Chuck is so upset isn't his wife the same. By the way What difference does it make?

Of course they were unnamed. It doesn't make a difference what skin color his wife has to most of us, but ESPN is was basically straight up saying SEC AD's are still racist enough that a black man married to a white woman is a big enough deal that Gill would never be hired. I think that is a pretty ridiculous comment to make, clearly Auburn is just crazy in general.

If there's anything worse than the condescension coming from Big MAC country (which has three black coaches in their entire history, two of whom were at Northwestern and one of whom was an extended interim), I don't know what it is.
