Palin: Let's Merge The Tea Party And GOP

After McCain won the nomination, I spoke with some conservative friends who had voted for him about why they would choose him since he was not conservative. The most frequent answer I got was that they voted for him because they believed it was the only chance the GOP had of winning, and idea they got from various "news" sources. Instead of voting for a conservative that represented their ideal, they voted for a more middle of the road candidate because they had acquired the impression that was the only chance at winning.

I really hope most conservatives have learned from that experience. I have always taught my son that it is what a person does that reveals what they truly believe, not what their mouth says. Personally, I would have a hard time voting for someone who quit when the going got tough. Saving this country from it's rapid slide into serfdom and irrelevance is going to require stick-to-it-ness.

To be fair, she does keep putting herself out there. Had she quit her job and went on to live a normal life as a housewife/bank teller/whatever in Spokane WA or something, no one would be talking about her.

The controversial nature of her as a politician is just worth a lot of money to her and Fox. They don't give a damn about the politics. The left has to love it.

I absolutely agree.

The issue is that a lot of conservatives do give a damn about what she has to say whether it makes sense or not.

The bible thumping crowd has made her a hero. That said, they loved Falwell too.

Again, I agree. The problem is that group is by far the most vocal and gets the most attention. Therefore, they appear to be the face of the Republican party to outsiders.

They are certainly the vocal. It's the evangelical thing. Ruining conservatism in my mind. Let the nutty left legislate morality and beat them over the head with it.

Can't the GOP see that this ignorant bimbo is bad for business. She cost McCain the election IMO. Keep her far, far away.

do you honestly think McCain would have gotten more than 46% of the vote had he chosen Joe Lieberman or a more well-known, but mainstream republican like Lindsay Graham? Palin increased his chances of winning, but McCain lost the election by being a weak candidate to begin with.

IDK really, he probably would not of won, but he seemed to lose alot of steam after Palin started doing more and more interviews.

McCain and Palin were doing will until McCain decided to return to Washington and vote in favor of TARP. Once the election revolved around the economy and not national security, it was over for McCain.

I'm not a Palin fan, but that's just crazy. Once the economy tanked, McCain's candidacy was dead. Having Palin on the ticket is what gave McCain a slightly respectable defeat vs. a border line landslide.

Wow. I did not know that. Still; I hope she isn't running in 2012, there has got to be a better candidate.

I'm in the same boat. There's got to be a better candidate.

But Palin's appeal is very real and while I don't think she'd make a very good President, last night's speech was right in her wheel house. She'll be a formidable candidate . . . at least for awhile.

My personal read on the situation is that 50 % of her support is strongly committed and if she ran they'd campaign and and vote for her in the primary. But the other half, when push comes to shove, would be fairly easily swayed to another GOP candidate. She is still, to some degree, just the birght and shiny new thing.

She will not be the R nominee for the WH in '12.
