Parys Harelson overrated?

Maybe. Our whole d line was nasty last season before they lost all will to play... So maybe they were a bit overrated. That's clearly been the case with Mahelona.

But hey, they played well enough at Tennessee, that's all I care about.

Parys has the skills to have a good career in the NFL.
I won't be looking for him in the pro bowl, but I figure he'll do his alma mater proud.

Everybody has their own opinion.I thought our defensive line players were awesome and I thought the only time they were stopped was when they were double and sometimes triple teamed.Judging on defensive linemen in the NFL from UT currently and in the past, we have a pretty good crop that have turned out to be top NFL players.Reggie White,John Henderson,Albert Haynesworth,Shuan Ellis, and I know I am missing some.NFL draft expert, yeah right. :bad:

I think overrated might be the wrong word. Maybe for his size he's "ill suited" to play defensive end in the NFL. There are a lot of undersized edge rushers in college that end up having to play outside linebacker in a 3-4 once they get to the NFL unless they have either amazing strength or blinding speed.

Draft analysis is always funny. There are always guys who scouts fall in love with and guys who fall out of favor despite what you've seen on the field.

Lost the will to play?! More like got worn out because our offense couldn't make a first down in they got two offsides penalities by the defense.

Our D-Line was not overrated. Name one school that had a better line that UT's last year? I also don't see how you can "clearly" see that Mahelona was overrated. He started last season didn't he? He didn't have the monster year he had his junior season, but the double teams he saw probably helped Justin Harrell be so dominant. If you ask me, Parys and Jesse will get drafted, and Jason Hall will also get a chance to play. Next year, I'd say Harrell will be a pretty high pick.

That's the thing I was getting at.

And VMJ, I loved watching Mahelona play. He was a complete gamer. But him as an NFL player... I've lost faith since watching two of his workouts. He had no fire in them, no urgency, no desire. I hope he does turn it around and play great in the bigs. But things don't look so great right now. Jason Allen is looking like the only probable stud out of last year's class.

It is definitely funny watching people's opinions of guys rise and fall with every word Mel Kiper says.

...and Milo, did you honestly see two Mahelona workouts and come away thinking "No desire, no urgency"? Not really doubting you, but that sounds suspiciously like a draft "guru" cliche I've heard on the radio about 10 times.

Unreal. If there was ever a time to show a little hustle . . . .

No doubt. After thinking about it... I still think he'll get drafted, even if late. He played his but off in games, which always counts for something. I predict 6th/7th round for Jesse.

That is unless there's a bevy of 4-3 dees who need DT's
My feeling is he will get overlooked because of the lower production last yr but if they look close they will see at least 2 defenders on him every play and he still was able to get in the backfield , some team will get him at a bargain with 5th or 6th round money.

Personally, good luck to all the Vol's in the Draft. But they ALL were overrated last year. Pre season #2-3 then look where they finished.

You're selling the defense short... Personally, I'd put 99% of our team's failure last year on the offense. The defense just lost it's will to play after a season of being on the field for 3/4 of the game.

There was nothing overrated about our defense last year. We easily could have been 3-8 or worse if not for the defense.

I wondered if anyone else saw the strange article on Scout.com saying that Harelson is a possible 1st Rd. pick? Sounds a bit strange to me...
