Memphis won but it was a real close game with 2 mins to play. Saw a tweet as well that said Pastner and Antonio Barton had words. Also heard Memphis fans not happy at all. Any thoughts on that? Is anyone surprised? I have said all along they may struggle to make tourney but surely they will.

I like Josh- real good guy. But, recruiting is his strength.

They will be fine. They will probably lose a few games early in the year because they play a good OOC schedule like us. But, they will roll in conference schedule. I would say they are looking at a 5-7 seed in the NCAAT.

OCIVol is on the money, it would seem at this point. Pastner could prove us all wrong this year and meet expectations, but it would be the first time. This is his put up or shut up year.

As for struggling in an exhibition, I wouldn't read a thing into that. It's a glorified scrimmage.

What OCI said. He's not a good coach. To have that much talent is insane to struggle with it. Martin would have us top 10 in the nation with that type of talent. JMO

They turned that close game into a double digit lead in about a minute. I think they'll be OK.

on paper they have as much talent as anyone probably but that exhibition is kinda par for the course with them. I don't see them having trouble making the tourney but Knoxville looms as scary for them. I still have a wait and see attitude for them. I still maintain the loss of Will Barton might be bigger than most think

Thomas and Crawford were benched to start because they were late to meetings.

Antonio Barton got into it with Pastner during the game, and wasn't in the locker room after the game.

No reason a team full of 4 & 5 stars should struggle to put up 60 points on Christian Brothers University.

Unfortunately for Memphis and Pastner, is amongst all that talent, you have a couple apparent head-cases.

Memphis is making Pastner look like a good recruiter, but his coaching ain't so hot.

Eh, don't buy into it. I have no reason to defend Memphis, but put it into perspective. It was an exhibition game. We lost an exhibition game to a D-II school two years ago. We didn't play all that great against Victory the other night, particularly in the first half. These games don't count, and the coaching staff normally has a different approach for these games compared to normal games. Doesn't mean Pastner can coach, but still, this game shouldn't be an indicator for anything in the regular season.

Exhibition games mean nothing but it's a common theme for Pastner.

Recruit top talent, struggle in CUSA.

He's a terrible coach and Memphis won't do crap in the Big East until they get a new coach.

Prediction: Pastner gets fired at the end of the season.

Quite frankly, I've never seen a coach do so little with so much.

Josh Pastner is a career killer and is awful at developing players.

I hope the best for Austin Nichols but his career is over before it started with Pastner developing him. To think he chose that path over both Coach K and a Duke degree. Wtf... lol

BTO is right. I know its an exhibition and doesn't count. I wasn't pleased with the vols the other nite at the half either. But we outscored victory 91-43 after we fell behind and Stokes only played 9 Minutes so I thought we did alright.i just found it so funny that their fans were on pins and needles worried about losing to cbc until the final minute. They have top 5 talent.

I don't believe Nichols will stick around if he does indeed sign with Ghetto St. He'll transfer when Young Buzz gets fired.

We didnt play well for 10 minutes, the other 30 we were very good. Memphis played bad for 37 minutes and good for 3, that's a bit of an issue.

And yes we lost to a D2 school a couple years ago, and we went on to lose in the first round by 30 in an embarrassment. So if that's any indication, I don't think Memphis fans would be happy with a 30 point loss in the opening round of the NCAA tourney.

Just because of his recruiting class next year I see that as unlikely, I think he could probably end up in the NIT and still keep his job.

If they fired him I'd say Iverson, Nichosl and Powell are probably all gone...and King and Crawford may look around.

I guess they would lose a lot if he got fired.

Teams struggle in exhibition games all the time, i remember in 2009 Syracuse lost an exhibition game to Division II Le Moyne but they also advanced to the sweet 16 that year.

No freaking way. But, it is bold. His recruiting has been too good. I think 2013 is his second top 5 class, and I think both may be 2nd. You can play bad and still win in CUSA. They will win 25 games this year.

One problem is that Pastner hasn't had a good big man yet. Black is really a 4 who has to play the 5. Simpson is a JUCO who has not panned out so far. They also struggle from time to time on defense.

If we can shoot decently, then I think UT can handle Memphis at home. But, it will be a very good win for the resume if we do. The first interesting test for Memphis is against VCU in their tournament in the Bahamas. VCU is a fringe Top 25 team.

If he gets fired I hope it is before The Pearl is able to coach again. It would be really bad for us if CBP was in the middle of all that talent to recruit and coach. :crossfingers:.

If Tennessee had only scored 60 the other nite against Victory I would be very very concerned right now. But I guess I might run around and say we won and it was an exhibition. I would say its cause for concern for Memphis especially being a transition team with Top 5 talent.
