Pastner vs. Cuonzo? Fight to the Death!

So…Memphis has world class facilities and plays in an NBA arena. They have one of the best recruiting areas in the country, are in a decent conference, insane fan and corporate support, and pay their coach 2.6 million per- and in five years, Josh has accomplished:

2010: 2nd round NIT Ole Miss beats Memphis by 10. To be fair, Pastner stepped into a tough situation.
2011: Round of 64...2 point loss to Arizona
2012: Round of 64...7 point loss to St Louis. Score wasn't so bad here, but it was clear that Josh was COMPLETELY out coached
2013: Round of 32...22 point beatdown by Michigan State. Again, game wasn't that close.
2014: Round of 32… embarrassed by UVA by 18, but game wasn't nearly that close. Could have been 30+ had Virginia wanted to honestly.

I hope he stays at Memphis forever. A couple of more seasons like this, and UT can absolutely become the best program in the state. The top Memphis talent simply will not keep signing on to play for a coach that has a proven track record of taking 5 star recruits and turning them into fry cooks.

Huh? His incoming class is a bunch of mediocre JUCOs

I'm taking a shot at Pastner. He can't develop players at all. When it's more than one player, it's not just work ethic.

Joe Jackson (nearly transferred)
Chris Crawford
Tarik Black (transferred away)
Adonis Thomas

Two 5*s and two 4*s that haven't amounted to anything.

And I'm thinking that Nick King will be added to the list too. Pastner sure isn't going to do him any good. Nick King will become another wasted hometown product that felt the pressure to stay home. Eventually, people will come to see that Pastner can't develop talent, and his recruiting will fade.

And don't get me started on how poorly coached and lost the team appears on the court. Pastner doesn't run a set half court offense. This team get ousted in the tournament by superiorly coached teams like Virginia, Michigan State, St. Louis, and Arizona. They'll never be a threat with Pastner.

You should take a look at that joke of a fan site they have lol! It's in full-blown meltdown mode. Other than a few posters, their fans are still acting like Josh can do no wrong. They honestly outpace Vandy fans for delusional thinking, imo.

You guys are delusional. Enjoy the sweet 16. We will be back again the tourney anyway next year.

You are having a run to the sweet 16 like USF did but they did play more challenging teams to do it. Their problem is that they didn't have the ability to keep the trend going for the years after.

Our lessen this year is no matter how many good victories we can't have that many losses and not expect to have to play a 1 seed right off the bat. Good transition year overall. The freshmen played in a real conference their first year and know what it takes to get better. Looking forward to Markel Crawford running our point.

Yeah I envy the path y'all took to get to the sweet 16 but we had a similar one in 2005. Can't get too mad

We beat that same UVA team by 35 earlier this year, after letting our foot off the throttle with a few minutes to play.

UT's average margin of victory in our 3 tourney games is 17.3 pts.

When they're playing like this, I'm not afraid to say that UT is a Final 4 caliber team. Hopefully we can maintain consistency through the extended break.

Who's to say that Memphis even beats Iowa, UMass, and Mercer? They weren't exactly playing good basketball coming into the tournament.

Way to rationalize another early exit by that kid y'all are paying $2.6m. What do y'all consider as a good ROI down on Beale? Cause it looks like you're getting screwed.

Transition year? Seriously? I am in Memphis, and this year was "the year." Memphis will return a good frontcourt, but the backcourt will have no experience whatsoever. They may make the NCAAT, but it will not be any better than this year. In fact, I am calling it now- SMU will win the AAC next year.

The last three seasons has been "the year" for Memphis Tiger basketball. Next season will be "the year" too. :eek:lol:

To promptly underachieve like you always do. I'm LMAO that Martin has already gone further in his first try than Pastner has in multiple tries. That must really sting.

UT won 3 games in 5 days while traveling to two different cities. Name another team that did that. And it's not like UT was just squeaking by. Their only close game was against Iowa who they destroyed in OT. Then they destroyed UMASS and Mercer. UMASS was seeded higher than Tiger High. Maybe your team should play better and your coach should coach better next time. The team that routed Tiger High got roasted by UT by 35points.
